Sounds like they weren't great at durability, maintainability, or redundancy. Maybe it was all done by the lowest bidder. Maybe they lost the knowledge or ability to keep things running. Maybe it was something else. That's why we keep coming back for the next issue!

So the progenitors had started a process with the "rising of the waters" that they could not stop afterwards? And then what happened after that? Shouldn't this world have become a water world?

Unfortunately, legends and myths rarely tell the story very accurately. Maybe the whole "ocean-desert" thing is a big metaphor... Who knows?

Damn, that sucks. They failed to find the balance between Mother Nature and influence of humanoid kind. The they drowned how on this planet did the giant creatures survived?
