Nic - That's quite a bit of pressure to put on Tim. Although one could argue that it shows Imy's enormous trust in him. Still, though, that's a lot of pressure… Ben - We have one more page left for this chapter and I've gotten to try out a bunch of different ideas for how to do the crowds in the background. It's tricky because I want it to look crowded but I don't want to detract from the interactions of our characters. I've sort of settled on the style of this page: some details in the background folks, all a uniform color. Does this work for you and do you have any suggestions for how it could be better?
I recently rewatched Titanic, and seeing this background instantly took me back to the ship. I want to say that's logical given a very close period in time. I think you captured the scene beautifully, and I'm really the composition of the last panel.
(Ben) Thanks a lot, I appreciate the compliment. After the page went up, I realized that it looked a bit more like an ocean liner rather than a ferry. So, yes, it definitely has a Titanic vibe going on.
(Ben) Thanks a lot. :) It's certainly been an experience. I like the freedom of getting to try doing a lot of different faces and body types but it can be exhausting to have to draw so many people doing things.
(Nic) I think Tim believes he'll do all that he can, as well as wanting to assure Imy in this moment. I wouldn't be surprised if he's worried and has that sneaking since of doubt, though. However, Tim tends to knock aside feelings of that nature whenever they creep up :)
(Ben) Thanks a lot. I like the line work and depth of the bottom panel but it still ended up feeling a bit weird to me. Some of the offline feedback that I've gotten is that the bottom panel looks a little weird with the crowd being grey but the ferry having color. I'm thinking that it might have been better to have some spot coloring in the crowd to fade it in better, which probably would have helped push the depth a little as well. I'm sure I'll have more time to try new things in the future. :)
I'm a fan of when artists go for lower detail on background characters and extras to make the characters being focused on stand out more, so...yeah, I think the crowd looks good.

Liking the composition, I missed a word ;)

Drawing crowds in the background is pretty difficult, but it looks great. :)

I wonder if at this moment Tim really believes he has the ability to bring her back though...

It works well for me. I especially love the depth of the direction in that bottom panel. :)

(Nic) Ben will respond eventually since this comment is directed towards him but I just wanted to chime in and say that I agree with you :)

(Ben) Ok, nice, thanks for the feedback. :)

Works very well. That the crowd is in many ways colorless. They're there, but they're not seen as more than a mass.
NicAndBen at 6:52AM, Nov. 12, 2020
(Ben) That's good, I was hoping it would push that feeling a bit as well. Thanks a lot. :)

I think the background looks great! Still crowded but not distracting!! :) also I bet this makes coloring easier huh? ;)
NicAndBen at 6:51AM, Nov. 12, 2020
(Ben) It's definitely easier to color. I was also worried it was a bit dull, but it seems like it's working for people. :)

The background people are great. It works for me.

(Ben) Nice, that's good to hear. Thanks very much.
