Magicians 4

I decided it would be fun to draw a “set the scene” angle. I traveled a lot growing up. My family used to take multi-day road trips and check into whatever motel/hotel had room. A couple years ago, I lived on an island that had one hotel (it was mostly designed for fishermen, and stuck so far back in the 70s, you could drown in the shag carpet). My parents visited now and then and chose to stay there rather than the nearest larger town, which was an hour away. In any case, hotels figure strongly into my life experience, and my favorite thing about this project is how much I get to draw from life (and from my geeky interests).
Oh, and the town I grew up in had one. The Mid-Town Motel. I think it had six rooms. I know nothing about it except that it was in the dead center of town directly across from the one restaurant that didn't frequently change hands. There was a weird geodesic dome building just behind/beside it. They formed what I think of as the Belington skyline (one story high).

Been in so many rooms like that. Back in my traveling years.

It practically feels like home.

Great image. So iconic of all the motels I've stayed in.

Thanks! This story is full of nostalgia for me. Sketching it really brings it home.
