Chapter 1: The Journey 2

Here's the first official page of The Temple of a Thousand Tears. This story is in medias res - which in Latin basically means “in the middle of things.” It's hardly a new technique, but one that I think is often fun to use. As a reader, I like catching up to where the story is, answering questions along the way.
Enjoy!

DSNG: Samurai story, actually. But there might be ninjas later on, in a prequel or something. Lapix: The best stories usually do, right? ;)

CoyoteLongshot: My goal was to make a still image on a splash page as confusing as possible. No, kidding. I did however want to set a prelude of things to come, and this page will actually be one of the last pages in this story.

Man, they are f***ed up. I've got about the same thing to say as the other two, it was kinda hard to distinguish at first.

Yes, there's a lot going on in this image...and the great thing is that we'll be coming back to this page much much later in the story. This is one of the last images that you will see in the story. This page answers many questions - questions you may not even be aware of yet - but also asks a single, final question: who in this panel has won?

like the bold page...but a little disoriented with where is what...I had to look over the page for several seconds to finally understand that there is one guty behind the other as they are posed in battle and fatigued...at first I thought there was a guy in front that had his head cut off...but finally understoofd that not be the case...I wonder if adding black to the background may help balanca the page and help define the characters more.

Yeah I agree, sometimes it's better to start in the middle rather than guide the reader by the hand, so to speak. I'm intrigued. And I like the artwork: their faces, their clothes, and the use of red for blood. The proportions seem a bit distorted, but perhaps that was an intentional effect?
