#555 or the “Seven Sins Sword”: The sword Shu owns is an “intelligent weapon” - it has a will on its own and can “communicate” with him.
Intelligent weapons choose their masters and protect them, they also have a special spell that lets them “phase through” their master, reducing the harm of being accidentally hurt to absolute 0%. Also, any other person that isn't their master will be unable to wield them.
That's why, even though the sword slashed through the bullfrog multiple times, Shu's severed arm is still in one piece.
However that act costed Shu a lot of mana. Intelligent weapons drain mana directly from their masters.

Missed a couple updates, had a to re-read the last few a couple times to figure out the timeline. The different colors of the flashback help.
