background info: something i find fascinating is the concept of “aboslute altruism”, to the point of self-sacrifice. complete disregard for one's own life for the benefit of the species as a whole. a lot of animals practice this though we can never know how much of it is intentional on the animal's side, an animal lacks self-awareness to understand the consequences of what it's doing. but what if there was a species with human levels of intellect that behaved this way?
