This dialogue has been documented by eye witness accounts. In reality, there were a couple more people in the room, namely Aris’ second. Possibly, also someone from Napoleon Zervas, who was aware of this discussion. However, I honestly wanted to depict the important parties only.

Another fact is that while Zervas was an actual army general, Velouhiotis wasn’t. He assumed that title anyway strictly for morale purposes. Everyone addressed him like that even if they knew he wasn’t. I think Velouhiotis is exaggerating. Considering the will to resist of a large part of the Greeks and the fierceness with which they fought against the Nazis and later against each other, it may be true that the equipment of the resistance fighters was pitiful and the existing structures might have been damaged - but then new ones would have been created.

Yes and no. He was correct that at the time, they had only a few hundred partisans, with a lot of undermining that they were dead men walking led by a madman. If this operation failed, the underminers would be proven correct and the resistance would disband in favor of little pockets of uncoordinated tiny-scale action for a good while. Would they re-merge into something new down the line? Perhaps/probably. But precious time would have been lost.
