@mks_monsters - Exactly! It really is an art. @Ironscarf- it's a lot of fun though too isn't it? ^_^ @Bravo - The real trick is to make them want more, while the "more" is always exactly the same thing. The "clean" nature is about not limiting your audience by falling afoul of censorship rules. @Morgan- true, when the art of the tease fails then it becomes boring and frustrating, which is why you need to offer more than teased nudity, the story or comedy or dramatic tension should help distract you so you don't get pissed off. @Aspitizer - That's really clever!

In Legion of Net.Heroes: The Webcomic #34 -- I had the two background characters (that were usually obscured with speech balloons in the other strips), BJ and Mr. UFO, get there revenge by hijacking that strip and obscuring the entire comic with their own speech balloons. The strip they're obscuring is one where the LNH seem to be planning an orgy or something. Also had some of those balloons covering up characters implying maybe that they didn't have clothes on. So, fun tricks to do with speech balloons (and caption boxes)!

It's possible that one reason why I do an adult comic is annoyance at badly done tease scenes, like when a TV show uses a shot of an actress' naked back to pretend she's naked. I groan and roll my eyes at that cliched nonsense. I flipped through Adam Warren's Empowered collection and was annoyed at all the tease overdosing. There comes a point where you just gotta show the tits and get on with the story. On the other hand Austin Powers use of using objects to hide nudity was hilarious. So it can be done right.

As a magician will tell you, it's one thing to know the trick; it is something else entirely to duplicate it. I know most of the tricks behind magic. James "the Amazing" Randi is one of my favorite authors. But doing it yourself is totally different. That being said once you've revealed everything, you'll never be able to hold back again and might as well give it up. If I'm going to imply it, might as well show it because the content is the content. A nude scene isn't somehow all of a sudden clean simply because there aren't any nipples.

I decided to reverse the will they/won't they tease approach in Elmwych: they absolutely will, within the first few pages. On the other hand you don't see so much as a nipple, very much following the Bottomless Waitress model. Finding creative ways to do that can be an art form in itself I think and also a source of comedy, as this week's Quackcast artwork clearly demonstrates!

I find that nowadays, the art of leaving things to the imagination and having that little bit of mystery is very underappreciated. So I actually find teasing to be a good tactic especially when in the end, it does happen, but there's no kissing and telling. When you show too much, things become less romantic or amazing. Like a magic trick. When you know how it works, the magic is gone.
