On the whole thing about the chidori/raikiri: Kakashi originally called his technique chidori, but after cutting a lightning bolt with it, he changed the name to raikiri. It's based on the legend of a samurai who had a katana named Chidori, and then one day deflected a lightning bolt by cutting demon throwing it. He then changed the name of his sword to Raikiri, meaning "lightning cutter". And, as Sasuke insists while fighting Deidara that chidori and raikiri are two separate techniques, we will have to assume that the two jutsu are different... somehow. The more you know!

I think it's just two names for the same move. Like how Rasenga is also called Spiraling Sphere. (I know, that's what it means. But sometimes in Subs I've watched it's called Rasengan by someone one minute, then the SAME person calls it Spiraling Sphere the next)

You...rock. I agree, they called it Chidori where I've seen the anime (and I think the manga), also saying it was the thousand birds, and Kakashi was known to have cut lightning with it. Then they were calling it Raikiri later on in the manga, so I'm confuzzled.

i'm not the most acurate but i think Chidori is A ramked and not powerful enough to cut lightning and Raikiri is S ranked and could cut lightning

Earthdivine at 9:38PM, Oct. 4, 2006

nvm, they called it Raikiri when they first show it, but they both mean that move, so we're both wrong (well, mostly me then you)

Earthdivine at 9:29PM, Oct. 4, 2006

No, thats what they justus mean, they never translated it in the dub.

OH NOES!

trythesoup at 8:16PM, Oct. 4, 2006

in the subs and scanlations i've watched and read, they've always called both his and sasuke's move 'chidori'. i've never actually heard of Raikiri before. but if that's true, then in the dub...will they call sasuke's chidori "thousand birds"? since they called kakashi's 'lightning blade"...that'd seem silly :P

Earthdivine at 8:11PM, Oct. 4, 2006

Chidori (thousand birds) is Sasukes move, the one your thinking is called Raikiri (Thunder sword)
