When it comes to the Biolizard, Professor Gerald created the Biolizard before Shadow. The Biolizard had may faults, one them being the life support system. In Shadow the Hedgehog, the history of the Biolizard isn't reviled, but it does show how it went from the Biolizard to Shadow. Basically it's all the alien race know as the Black Arms fault. Plus Professor Gerald needing a way to make the true Ultimate Life Form.

Prototype ultimate life form my ass. I never quite got how they went from that thing to Shadow. If the lizard is the prototype, shouldn't it and Shadow bear some resemblance? If you throw the entire design away in favor of a new one, it's not a prototype anymore. Anime has some dumb cliches.
