Episode 502 - Definitive character moments!

Oct 26, 2020

What is the most definitive version of your character? Where does it pop up in your comic? What part of your work most defines your main character and why? What about TV, movie, comic, and story characters?

Topics and Show Notes

For example, Pinky from my OWN comic, Pinky TA, is best characterised by her version in Chapter 6. Looks-wise the prime Pinky is the original from the first couple of pages of Chapter 1, but the version in Chapter 6 is best defined in her thinking and attitude due to her direct interactions with other characters.
One of my fave characters in the media is Major Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, her first debut was her manga and then the excellent 1990s movie… but personally I feel the definitive version of her is in the TV series Stand Alone Complex. That best defined her look, taking the best from the manga and the film, as well as defining her as a thinking and feeling character and the leader of her team within section 9. If someone were to ask me how to get into Ghost in the Shell I'd direct them right to that series.

And THAT is what we're taking about in this Quackcast. :)
Please share your own prime versions of your characters or ones from TV and other sources.

The musical feature this week that Gunwallace has given us is theme to Small Gods. It's classical, melenholly and stately. The cello sings us in and the rhythm guides us. The music layers and builds upon itself, crafting a stately pile. Hints of chaos flash through as the theme continues… then all of a sudden it comes crashing down with a clash of cymbals!

Haha, Fast and Furious :D I suppose in movies they usually get all new writing teams wheras in TV shows there's a lot more comntinuity.

I like this Quack Cast. The point with Deep Space 9 is kind of true for me too. The first 2 seasons was slow and yet new. If it wasn't for Chief O'Brian and Commander Worf...(lets face it, I had major crush on Major Kira.) I would have never made it that far. Banes you are right. After that, Deep Space 9 became my favorite Star Trek series. Don't get me wrong Star Trek The Next Generation was great but It felt too clean, too polished. DS9 was grimy and ghetto or more related to a multi community with issues. You got to know the many different characters. I think Movies with sequels are a hit or miss with defining character(s) moments. One moment they R this way the next movie they R that way? Exam: Fast N Furious is one.

I never thought about it before. 1)If I had to choose a defining moment for Ina, the first one would be when she decided to show herself to the world. Being a form of SIN, hiding their existence from humankind made no sense to her. This moment would be where she feels, why hide from those that are weak to her? Due to her meeting countless Gods and deities, the ones that showed her how to obtain powers from other deities, made her selfish and narcissistic. 2) When she was vanished to another universe, the person took away most of her memory. She woke up & can't remember her history or how to control all the powers she accumulated. A hero found her with amnesia & decided to help her control her powers. Later, When she fought her alternate self from that universe, they talked about what she/they are. However, guided be heroes, she became a compassionate, & caring person. This is where her new self made her who she is.
