Does putting "comix" instead of comics mean anything??

I mean why do people put that at the end? Does it make the comic sound cooler or anything or is it just there for no reason? (I got bored and started wondering this).

I have two theories on this:
1) They wish to stand out and appear ‘Young and hip.’ Everyone knows X makes you cool.
2) They failed basic spelling.

The way I understand it, “comix”, as it is spelled here, were started in the 60s by edgier, underground artists like R. Crumb and the like to differentiate themselves from the mainstream pack at the time. Now, like almost every hippie idea from the 60s, it's a sign of hipster pretentious.

Because x's, 1's, and z's make everything KEWLER! It's like cruise control for lazy hipsters of all ages.
“You tell yourself to just
enjoy the process,” he added. “That whether you succeed or fail, win or
lose, it will be fine. You pretend to be Zen. You adopt detachment, and
ironic humor, while secretly praying for a miracle.”

Any time you spell some thing with an X, you make it extreme. It's basic science.

I always thought it was easier to copyright a name when you misspelled it like that. I might be way off tho.

it was intended as a way of singling out comics that weren't intended for children, due to violence, sex, or adult concepts but it never really panned out. now it's mostly the dominion of people that think they're much more edgy than they really ever were.
ironically it was the sign of the comic industry really evolving once, but apathy on the distributor's end and greed on the publisher's turned the attempt to make it something more than kid's stories and fanboy fodder into a crass marketing gimmick.
shirt version: no, it doesn't really mean anything.

pretty much this.
My comics named “Kung Fu Komix”…if you asked me why i spelled it that way, its simple…KFC doesnt sound as good, and Kung Fu Komics just doesnt work. its not always an attempt to appear “hip” or “cool”
“Kung Fu Komix IS…hardcore martial art action all the way. 8/10” -Harkovast
“Kung Fu Komix is that rare comic that is made with heart and love of the medium, and it delivers” -Zenstrive
“Kung Fu Komix is…so awesome” -threeeyeswurm
“Kung Fu Komix is..told with all the stupid exuberance of the genre it parodies” -The Real Macabre

Well, I used to name my comics as “comix” 'cause I thought it made me sound cooler, then I moved to saying “Komix” then after a while I moved to just “comics”.

I think comix does look cooler than comics myself, but it kind of depends on how its used, like a serious comic using ‘comix’ would be kind of weird but a crazier or kid-friendly comic doing it would seem alright.

How about “Cow-micks”?
That sounds better…
Kinda sounds like something you'd used for like a comic about a cow or something.

elektroI would say that you're part right. The alternate spelling “comix” was used by underground artists to set themselves apart, and to some small extent it still is. Now I think it's used more out of whimsy than outright pretentiousness.

In my case I came up with “Arbitrary Comix” as a title for a sketchbook comic because it just seemed more appropriate somehow. I guess spelling it properly looked too serious.

http://lambiek.net/comics/underground.htm
The late 1960s saw the emergence of underground comics, a new wave of humorous, hippie-inspired comic books that dealt with social and political subjects like sex, drugs, rock music and anti-war protest. For this reason, these new comics became known as “comix” to set them apart from mainstream comics and to emphasize the “x” for x-rated.

Enh. Things with x's in them tend to stick in people's mind's longer, methinks.
Though the only comic to ever pull off the x is Khaos Komix. (don't lie. You konw you love it.)
