Everytime I click into my comic on DD, I'm getting these fastclick popups on my page. After I do the spyware scan they do show up on the list as spyware, not bad stuff but it is there. Just thought I'd give the heads up. Mmmm, could be because of Internet Explorer. Oh well.

It's most likely advertising implemented to keep Drunk Duck paid for. As long as this is as bad as it gets, I don't mind.

I hope to get the DD books up and ready for printing ASAP so that we might find a less innocuous way to pay for the site without the ads, but right now the popups and ad banners are the only guaranteed income for an increasingly expensive hosting system.

I have the first book up:

hopefully the second and the BRAND NEW third won't be far behind.

Hmm, yeah I reckon it's a small price to pay having these pop-ups… seeing as how it means we're provided with free hosting an' all!

Nooo, subscriptions are baaad… I'm a student, I ain't got no moneeez ;_;

The joys of a firewall though, should not be overlooked… you'll find if you install a decent one, like Zonealarm, that yeh won't be having such a problem with malicious spyware… it also helps to have an anti-spyware prog installed too, just for that added cleaning power!

I'd help out with the funding part too, but like everyone else, I'm really short of funds. But those popups are annoying and they do harbor spyware. I've seen the list come up on my spyware removal programs. No problem it eats them up but for people who don't have spyware removal programs, it may do damage. You might wanna look into modifying those popups if you must keep them so they don't import anything harmful.

I am a) not short of cash and b) very willing to donate. Hell I spent $79 on a plugin for illustrator this morning, the least I can do is send $50 this way.

I subscribed to platinum once, and I'd subscribe again if it would get rid of the popups. I don't generally mind ads on my page or any page for that matter if they are imbedded. Pop ups or pop unders in any way are highly annoying and tend to drive visitors to visit other sites without them. Although I have no idea whats going on with the platinum/subscription side of things now.

If there DO have to be ads on the site, could they not be imbedded rather than popup/popunder format? what about google ads? they are WAY less intrusive.

Yeah, platinum status was very fun, especially to get rid of the pop up on my actual comics. I don't mind them so much showing up on the main page as I do on the comics.

Otherwise, do what you gotta do DD to keep afloat. ^_^

I've alerted Volte6 to this thread, so I'm sure he'll chime in soon. Unfortunately, he's without a home PC, so it may take a while.

It's just a cookie… i wouldnt' consider it spyware. It's generally used to make sure that you only get one pop under every 12 hours…

Oh okay. Guess Counterspy still considered it spyware when it really isn't. Gee, that's how sensitive my counterspy program is.. Woww. Anyway, as long as it's harmless then it's okay.

Actually I agree with you. One of them I scanned my computer for, happened to be a remote access trojan, and I don't think it came from this site. Came from somewhere else. I could tell it was a RAT because I was getting really strange emails with numbers and caps attached to them. After I scanned with Counterspy, they weren't there anymore.
