Halloween Cameo Caper 2008

Each year around the date of Halloween, the number of cameos in the various webcomics swell as the eldritch magic of that particular event breaks down the boundaries between webcomics and characters can freely move from comic to comic, dress up and partake in parties of filler-specials all over the worlds of webcomics!

Interactions are something most people never get tired of, so we'll like to promote this great cameo-opportunity by inviting all webcomic-artists and their characters to take part in the annual Halloween Cameo Caper!

The basic idea is to gather all the participating characters in a chosen setting that each year is settled by a poll in the Caper's Forum, and here they'll all, on the day of Halloween, have a great party together, a party that will spread all through the participating comics!

Each artist will draw a strip, featuring his, hers or its (this is webcomic business after all!) characters, as well as many of the other artists' characters (or at least characters from as many other strips) as possible! The strip will then be posted at the artist's site at the day of Halloween, either as a filler-strip, canon-strip or something more exclusive, some might just settle for a forum-posted drawing.

However, for inventive artists, the occasion might even turn out to take the form as a minor plotline, or… a collective crossover between a whole set of comics in a joined storyline leading up to the day of Halloween? The possibilities are many and can and will be taken up in the forums as the day approaches!

As the stories proceeds, leading up to Halloween, the site for the Halloween Caper will update with links to all the participating comics, and when Halloween of the year is history, the will still celebrate and immortalize the event for the entire world by linking and keeping the strips that may disappear from their original sites over the passage of time.

The essence of it all is for everybody, artist and readers alike, to have fun! To try ones skill at drawing others characters and to see them interact!

… besides that, it's also a great way to promote ones own comic! ;-)

———————————————————————-

So, this year we will try going for the third Caper in a row, the two previous ones can be found here and here.

At the moment the place for hosting this year's Caper are to be found. The previous years we visited the town of Shelterville in the Old Wild West and Disneyland orbiting a distant planet in the far future… where to hold it this year?

The hosting-discussion is mainly taking place in the Caper's Forum here, in this thread to be more precise, but any suggestions place in the thread here will also be added to the poll for the site-placement that will begin after the 17th of February. When the place has been found, its time to sign up and start planning!
… more on the latter later

Thanks for you cooperation! See you at the Caper!

The time for suggesting places to hold the Cameo Caper 2008 is now up, and a poll has been put together with the most popular suggestions (and a couple added by yours sincerely since not enough new spots were suggested…).

The Poll will run until the end of March, after which the winning choice will be chosen and a setting build up from the basic idea, and THEN the signing up and planning can begin!!

The voting takes place on the Caper's Forum here, and for those who do not want to sign up in the forum in order to vote, its possible to “mail-vote” by mailing your choice to your's sincerely.
Also, the options for voting is for everyone, no matter if you consider participating or not…

The location for the Caper has now been chosen and the Caper itself is open for the signing up of participating comics!

Here's the official invitation:

Greetings!

We of Great Notimporton Chamber of Commerce, hereby invite you, as a cartoonist, to let your comic and characters partake in the great Halloween Cameo Caper of 2008!
Following up on the adventures and ensuring parties from the events of 2006 and 2007, having take place such faraway places as Shelterville in the old Wild West, and Disneyland orbiting the planet of Dahk-Tuin in the future, we will this time hold the party in… Great Notimporton Mall!
Located near Manchester UK, the Mall is a great place to hang out, meet new and interesting friends perhaps from other places and comics, do some shopping… there’s just one problem… there are Zombies afoot!!
However the event will turn out, and even if there will be no survivors to tell the tale, it will be recorded for the future by all the cartoonist who ends up taking part in the occasion!

We hope you will take well to this invitation and send your characters to a great event that will means lot of fun and partying for them, you and the readers!

- Great Notimporton Chamber of Commerce

Does this sound like something for you? You feel like taking on Great Notimporton Mall and brace the shopping hungry hordes of teenagers and general hungry hordes of Zombies? If you are not sure yet, then take a look at various threads in the Caper's Forum, especially the thread that brings more description to the setting of Notimporton Mall and perhaps help fleshing it out?.

Also, visit the Caper's Hub where everything in due time will be put up..

Hope so see many of you there! :)

The Deadline for signing up for participation in the Caper is the 1st of September 2008.
You may sign up later than that and do your own parts of the Wars, but you cannot guarantee that other participants can and will include you in their plans or make use of your characters in their Caper-strips due to time-restrictions.

The list of those who have so far signed up can be found here

Just a friendly reminder to everyone that there is exactly one month to the final deadline, and most of those already signed up are allready knee-deep into plotting and planning, so better get over there if you want to be in before it gets too spicey!

Actually, the Caper is already well on its way, there's still the chance for you to sign your characters up as random cameos for anyone interested in adding them to the crowds of a zombie-filled mall!

Its Halloween… its dark and there will be zombies all over… hit it!
