HAPPY ANZAC DAY!!!!


So, uh…..what the heck IS Anzac Day?!? Ozone? Can you answer that? …Eh?

It's where australians celebrate their ability to totally cock up navigation and tactics.

What? The ANZACs were the ones who nearly won Gallipoli! It was the Brits who let them down! Oh and please let's not forget the French were there too.

Rememeber ANZAC day is also for their contribution to the Western Front in WWI and later on their work in WWII from Tobruk to Burma.

ANZAC day is the commemoration of the sacrifice made by Australian and New Zealand troops on the shores of Gallipoli in Turkey during the first world war, in 1915. But has since come to be a sort of general memorial day for other conflicts as well, especially since all Australian Gallipoli veterans are now dead. I don't know about the New Zealanders.

The Gallipoli assault failed because of poor British intelligence. ANZAC troops were landed at an extremely well defended area by mistake by the British. Many were mainly light cavalry troops who were unused to infantry tactics, I think they'd had to leave their horses behind in Egypt. They made the best of it, stormed the beaches in the face of well dug in Turkish guns and despite high losses, dug in themselves.

They managed to hold that position for about 8 months I think, with various actions and attacks over that time before a secret withdrawal was carefully planned and executed under the cover of darkness, using various tricks like automatically firing rifles in order to fool the Turks that their positions were still occupied. -or so the propaganda goes :)

I means I get to sleep in :)

The most causulties were sustained were by the British,(120,000) then the French(27,000) and then the Australians(26,111) the New Zealanders (7,571) and then the Indians. The initial landings were 35,000 Brits and 17,000 ANZACs. Indian, French Foreign Legion, French and French Colonial troops followed as reinforcments
