I was getting 2000-3500 hits a day for one week and still couldn't get past #12 or so.

At #6 I've been getting 4000-5000 a day for the last week and a bit (with one day at over 8,500, due to advertising on Buzzcomix. Only $5 for 5 slots! Doooo iiiit! :D) and haven't budged, so the people in the top 5 must be getting much higher hits. :)

Ah, the older comics, the ones that came back earliest after the restart at the start of 2006, have been taken out of the ranking calculations at the moment, so the rank of all comics that started after a certain date will jump.

This might go down a bit back to what it was if and when the older comics start getting counted again ;)

Holy cats I thought my comic got deleted at first, and I nearly cried! Why for art thou not calculating older comics, praytell? I was waiting for someone to take my spot fair-like y'know. This didn't really change the top lists much either. Except for the porn…

It'll hopefully be fixed soon. I wasn't sure myself what was happing until I worked it out… But don't worry, as soon as the old comics get reconnected to the stat machine they'll get back to where they were :)

XD It kinda astonishes me that I'm in the overall top ten next to all those much longer more established strips… I'll be coming up to my year annivarsary soon but I still feel like a noob next to some people here~

that's why i proposed that every 7 days the views get wiped, so that there would be more of a fluctuating top 10.

the reason why the comcis are stuck there is because everyday they are exposed to the front page doubling/tripling thier views. once you get on the top5 it's hard to get off because of that chain event.

wiping out the score every 7 days forces a blank slate and doesn't rely on page views accumultation.

I was actually going to suggest something like this but.. got lazy, or something. lol! Anyway, I'd like this idea just to see a little variety on the front page sometimes (not that the comics up there right now aren't good!). Variety being the spice of life, and all that.

I dunno… those top comics on bcx are part of the reason that buzzcomix has any traffic. Also, they DESERVE to be in the top because they get the most votes. if you read through some of the top ten bcx webcomics, I guarantee you'll be very impressed (other than that saturday morning breakfast cereal one… it's not all that funny.) but stuff like misfile and krakow… gosh I just love them!!
so while I think it would be nice if they somehow changed stuff around so that it's not always the same comics on top, it just doesn't quite make sense to do so.

I'm not suggesting that the top comics don't deserve to be there, It's like Starbucks, and that episode of South Park about Starbucks. They are number 1 because they make a good product. It just seems like maybe there could be a way to get more good comics to more people. I don't really have an answer as to how to do it, just kind of thinking. It hapens with any website that ranks anything, too, not just comics.

Perhaps if the top twenty five or so comics were cycled on the front page randomly rather than by rank it'd get exposure to the ones that are really good but just haven't quite cracked the top spots yet~ A sorta “what people are reading right now” rather than “these are the popular ones” type thing.
