Little businesses grow up and become Big businesses.

They also go out of business, stay the same size, increase in size slightly, get bought out by larger businesses and loads of other things. They have to be FINANCIALLY SUCCESSFUL to grow.

I'm a lot more confident now than I was before. :)
It's just good to have a rant every now and again…

Eh, but as Admins, we don't often realise what weight our words carry. There's no WAY I wanted users to start feeling worried! I'm an idiot for doing that.
I'll try and watch my words in future ;)

I had something to say, but honestly it's lost now. I think it was about the original enthusiasm shown for DD back after the last huge crash and then the platinum buyout…but I forgot.

Hnnph. Maybe it'll come back to me.

How ya doin', Drunk Duck?

Some guy had posted a link to his (obviously fantastic) site saying “host your comics here” or something.

OH yeah it was some “other” comic host. i went to check it out and the first thing I saw was a HUGE block of php error code. damn! If you're gonna go onto a site, in a thread where people are complaining about site bugs, don't post a link to your more broken site and encourage people to go there! ha ha ha…

Was it rampage network or whatever? That guy has more problems than DD right now, and is generally pretty skeezy. Avoid at all costs.

Agreed, been saying this forever.

Why would you go with a service where the only way to tell what each box in the contact form means is by analyzing the html itself?

I think so. Yeah, I've heard that. So that does speak volumes to me. That little retard trying to muscle in on MY community? Who the F does he think he is? This is the Duck baby! Ain't nothing like it!

Okay, I'm not a big “ra, ra” kid of person, but really, I don't want anyone abandoning DD. I'm not leaving. It's still the best webcomic hoster out there. I love this site. I believe APC and mostly everyone that speaks out like this love it too. But we need to come to an understanding. There has GOT to be a level of communication that we are sorely lacking right now. This thread has gotten a lot of attention from some of the right people so maybe we'll see a turn around. I hope so. ;)

But, we need to all stand back and see what DD has going for it to. A lot of us lose sight of that. Remember, this is why DD stands out from the rest:

- A community of people that actually CARE about each other, and help each other. I've really never seen anything like it. And I am on A LOT of forums. Hell, the image bug isn't really that HUGE a deal since some community members found a work-around. You guys rock. I really, really mean that.

- The most user-friendly comic queueing system on the net. Be it jpg, png, or swf. No FTP knowledge needed, upload ten pages at a time, easy re-sort, and a drop down reference that your readers can actually use.

- Lots of traffic. I mean, a LOT. You'd be surprised, I bet.

- Tutorials, Profiles, email updates, RSS feeds, games, and lots of other extras that work pretty well.

- Ad space/revenue allowed. That's big. Trust me.

- and I DO credit PS for keeping the site active and alive. Even though we've put up some intrusion, and I don't really agree with the sales staff decisions, hey, it's still here. And it costs a lot to maintain a site like this.

Yep. DD isn't perfect and never has been. And yeah, we are all a little worried about the future. Hopefully someday DD will get the attention it deserves. But until then, we'll just keep doing what we do and hope for a brighter tomorrow.

And always, always, ALWAYS… back up your work. ;)

No, that's not who it was. I can't even remember the site that was linked, but it wasn't rampage network. The rampage guy contacted me a while back too, and would absolutely not take no for an answer; I eventually just started ignoring him. At least, I think it was him, he never actually linked to the site, I googled it when I saw you guys talking about it and it seems to be the same person.. I got a bad vibe from him while I was talking to him so decided to steer clear. I'm glad I did now.

Project fanboy is the name in the error Carly posted. If you google it's the .com one not .org.

So, a little birdie tipped me off to some interesting things being said:

Scott Kurtz
Rich Johnston reports in his Lying in the Gutters column that DJ¢ï¿½ï¿½s post has encouraged other creators to anonymously come forward about their own non-payment issues with Platinum, some of them owed thousands of dollars for months.

So I ambled on over to Lying in the Gutters:

Someone
PLATINUM PLATED

On that point it appears that creator DJ Coffman has had trouble getting money out of Platinum and as of this week has suspended their high profile series “Hero By Night” as a result, and he may be negotiating with Platinum to take his rights back.

As a result, a number of other creators not wishing to be named tell me they've been owed thousands for quite a while now.

Platinum declined to comment when asked.

Some people are owed thousands of dollars now?

HEY GUYS I JUST FOUND SOME MORE CRAP:

Read Tommie Kelly and Sean C's posts

Tommie Kelly
I know why Platinum has so much money. Last year they asked a few of us who were hosting on drunkduck did we want to be involved in doing images for mobile/cell phones. We would get paid and all that stuff

So we all submitted our work and promptly never got anything from Platinum. No one has gotten paid yet.

But some new guy has taken over the area, so maybe it'll be sorted out!

And this

A particularly interesting comment:
Some guy from a zoo
This isn’t the first time I’ve heard creators and artists complaining about Platinum. A friend of mine went month’s without getting paid and got the run around even. I was considering entering their comic book challenge but I don’t think they have the resources to offer anything of value to creators at this point.

None of that is news -the top part before you edited it-.
DJ has as much on Hero By Night's front page.
Kurtz has been down on Plat from Start to finish anyway… Nice fellow and sturdy founding pillar of the world of web comics that he might be.

As to the rest, I think that too has probably already come up in this thread. It doesn't matter, DD is still functioning fine. Plat is still actually going OK too.

There are some real issues going on with paying for current external projects, like those comic artists etc. And that Mobile thing was never really sorted out to start with, but is currently being straightened out by the VP :)

All that is slightly holding fire now at the moment but should be resolved shortly ^__^

Excuse me if I take that with a grain of salt, we've heard “shortly” parroted around here a lot. Hell, I remember when the new layout came up and we were told that the white bar that always shows up in opera would be fixed “shortly.”

Also, considering the information I got with about 2 minutes of research and Platinum's stock symbol ( PDOS.OB ), I find that very, VERY hard to believe.

I like this one, search for words like “debt”

Didn't you even read what I wrote? o_O
I said that most of that was OLD news and has already been in this thread and others. Fancy searching up some more redundant stuff?

I've given my assurance because of my better knowledge and when I say “hang fire” I'm talking about these things specifically, not layout or whatever else… Jebus man. -_-

You KNOW what stake I have in this site and what I feel. I don't say that just to be an empty cheerleader for plat!

Did you bother to read the part where I said that “soon” means absolutely nothing anymore? We've been TOLD soon, the layout is an example of us HEARING soon but never getting anything.

This isn't “soon” for you, this is absolutely to do with those specific current issues. And that coming from someone who is not a plat rep ok?

That's what I already posted.

————–
I Do appreciate your position though APC and you've done well to bring concerns to the public here, but with a lot of this there is a very real tendency towards higs-bosun type hysteria.
-NOT from you, but that's what these little hints and intimations fuel when framed the wrong way -> Dangerous foolishness.

So I put things into their correct context.

Wow, this is all really scary. I had no idea there was a problem until I decided to visit the General thread and read all this. I've had no problems with my comic or anything; not sure what this “image bug” is. But I would be really, really sad if DD disappeared one day. It's the only user-friendly webcomic server I can find. I tried keenspot/ComicGenesis before DD and they were incredibly nasty and not helpful at all, and I had to wait two whole weeks before I could even get my site activated. Their whole registration process was very confusing.

Ok, Killersteak, you've linked to some hysterical blog loser doing exactly the kind of rubbish I was talking about. If I wasn't such a wonderful person your sig would link to gay porn and you wouldn't be able to change it.

As for your concerns lastcall.
These kinds of user concerns are quite valid, but unfounded. If they were, Pinky TA would be gone from here.
