So, the change to the new system is meant to go ahead this week. O_O

All this old look will be gooooooorrrrrrrrrrn, replaced by the new green and gold look- those are Australian sports colours so it basically means the site is becoming rabidly Aussie.

I'm kind of resigned to most of it and the inevitable screw up but what does bother me is the forums.

I just don't want to be here if something messes up again…

I think it will be a rocky transition the first couple weeks, but prolonging it at this point is just silly. Might as well just do it, have people deal with whatever they have to deal with because of the new system, and move forward. There's going to be people who are unhappy but there will also be people who like it. And hopefully they'll be able to dedicate more fully to making whatever improvements we ask for to the new site, once they don't have to worry about the old one.

I haven't been a DD member for even one year yet, but I'm already feeling nostalgic for “the old place”.

It's like we should be taking a variety of screenshots to remember the family homestead.

Except I'm actually looking forward to this one.

I've been through a few comparable circumstances with websites before. I'm not really holding the torch a perfect launch or a perfectly operational new website. What I'm really hoping for is continued improvement.

I'm just worried that they are busting their butts trying to get this website up, and once it's finally launched they'll be slow to fix the bugs that it'll be (inevitably) frought with.

Not that I don't have faith in the programmers mind you.

Either way I agree with Skool. I'm not one of those “pull the bandaid off reeeeeeeaal slowly” types, I'm more of a “RIP IT OFF AND BE DONE WITH IT” kind of girl. Let's get this site change over with! I'm ready to be broken in on the new color scheme. I'm sure after a month or so with it I'll barely notice it anymore *crosses fingers*.

I'm still not looking forward to the name change. From something that sounds wild and intersting to something generic and boring. It'll be interesting to see what it will do to the site. :)

… Or are all we in for is repainting the old car, with it's bad breaks, poor steering, and broken blinkers?

In theory we will have a fresh colour scheme and a smooth running site, but lose the ability to customize things fully for a little while. What will probably happen is that we get a whole new load of bugs but they should be short lived…

You may think that but I couldn't possibly comment.

As long as that “rollback” from a few months ago doesn't happen again, I'll be fine. That was absolutely unacceptable. I know I for certain was pretty close to leaving the site myself because of it.

Definitely NOT!
100% no to that.

It'll be a brand new car that we're shovelling all our stuff into, but like some new cars there'll be weird knocking sounds from under the hood, no spare tyre, acceleration will seem too fast and the breaks will seem too slow, it'll handle corners differently and the gears will seem a bit stiff, new features will still need to be factory installed at a later date, and it'll have that disgusting “new car smell” that always makes me sick to my stomach for the first few weeks, But like most new cars you'll get used to its foibles and a lot of things will smooth out over time.

I can only imagine a steam-roller.

Yeah, that's pretty much how the change is gonna hit us :)

Some things will be shiz, but HOPEFULLY improve later- ie template editing.

-There is NO way to get around or minimize that one. It IS a sticking point, for ME specifically more than anyone else, because I've always had and been very protective of my own template, I've personally edited or created the templates for 10s of users, made two of the most popular template styles for the DD templates, and I've known about Lawrence's plans for this aspect way before anyone else except Skoolmunkee and argued bloody damn hard against them.
SO yeah… Some things will be cool, but on that one I remain to be convinced. I really do.

Dear god, same here, I'm not at all a ‘veteran’ user, but I really do feel attached to DD. I will miss the old duck, with its sometimes slow and crappy connection, with its dull grey forums coloured by humourous avatars…

But I am definately looking forward to the changeover. Though, fairly scared too. Nervous, or apprehensive are probably better words, actually. It's kind of like watching a little duckling finally grow up and leave the nest (except, I probably wouldn't have allowed a duckling to get “drunk”, that would be unnacceptable!)
