Sexlife vs Creative energy...

1. Those behavioral scientists, evolutionary biologists etc. have pretty much proven that sex is inherent in the make-up of our minds.
2. Creativity is often stimulated by sex as afterward I usually head to the desk and pound out a few pages. That's why my muse looks like Selma Hyeck. ;)
3. Give me tantrist sex. The power of sex gives me greater power in all apects of life. It puts me in contact with the essence of the universe and clarity and inner peace.
4. It might just depend on the person, core beliefs and points of view involving sex which for the most part among a lot of people is FUBAR and often leads to mental illness.
5. Depression is often caused by a lack of certain chemicals in the brain but the amount of those chemicals is increased by sex… makes you wonder… we're hardwired for it. It goes with the immortal question: Why is sex fun for humans? (Read The Third Chimpanzee by Jared Diamond, among other works)

Gosh I guess soldiers and warriors in history have often practiced the opposite of Chi. :) Sex before battle heightens the senses and energizes the mind. But if in the front line being drunk helps too as dulled senses can help some withstand the shock of battle but it has a tendency to get one killed.

As for pants less men I guess you're totally helpless in a room full of Scotsmen wearing kilts.

The only times I've ever been in situations like that are during my family reunions ^.^ You can rest assured I'm not thinking about sex at any point during those events.

Perfectly understood. Instead you should try marching in an American St. Patrick's Day parade. But for me it's those beautiful Colleens… :)

Know why the English kept invading Ireland? The women. ;)

Despite a terrific marraige and plenty of sexual release…I find I create waaayyy better when I am taking a sexual ‘hiatus’. The energy filling me fuels so many thoughts and ideas it is almost maddening (makes wife mad too…) and if I get ‘relief’ my creative energy plummets immediately. I have learned to work through this, but still, the manaic energy of sexual tension is crucial!

wow….you guys are more creative when you dont have sex? are you freaking kidding me?

Before I had sex, my art and stories SUCKED. Now, they rock. I find that I am better at drawing, planning, plotting, and everything involved with my stories after a good fuck. Im more laid back and able to think through things clearly.

I wouldn't know, I lack a sex life and creativity.
But if I could have one or the other, I'd take the sex life in a heartbeat.

I quote Van Gogh, regarding something he said about Paul Gauguin: “Painting, and f***ing, a lot, do not go well together. It softens the brain.”

For me, it's more an emotional happiness than anything. If I'm not emotionally happy, I don't feel like working on projects.

I can go from being all ready and working on a comic or animation, to getting a phone call and shutting everything down for days.

I'm not so sure about sex stifling creativity. Although relationships do cut into your free time pretty deeply. This lack of extra time translates into less creative work getting done. Consequently, it could cause your creative “muscles” to get a little flabby. I don't have to worry about that much at the moment.

Well, living under the same roof as a man that i'm currently engaged to, i've had my fair share of ‘activity’ this year o.o. But I have not had any known inspirations from sex alone. I find that I get most of my ideas and my artistic energy when i'm alone, listening to music, sipping on tea and munching on my favorite snack xD. I just can't attribute the ‘sex’ thing with my brain's creativity :p.

Well, since you must have been one of the most prolific artists here at DD this year, I think that probably settles it. The link is proven!

Hahahaha xD Good point DAJB :p…Who knows…Maybe sex life plays a larger role in creativity than I thought o.o…It's probably only just effected me unknowingly :s hehe.

Here is my .02 cents. Having a great sex life can create a happier and more vibrant atmosphere. Also, studies have consistently shown that a fulfilling sex life makes one more relaxed. Relaxation is key to creativity. Just think about this, what was Issac Newton doing when he had a stroke of genius? Chillin' underneath a tree. What did Eisenstein do for his thought experiments? Chill in his study. Having said that I've been in a bind. I'm having a long distant relationship with the love of my life. I'm happily in love but unhappy in my sex life. The easy thing to do would be to cheat but that would just make me an a-hole so until we see each other again I have to just…. you know…. Sooo frustrating at times but I must tell myself she's worth it. :*( Anyways, my creativity has suffered because of the frustration lol.

All I have to do is reconnect with my spirit guide and let all the creative sexual vibrations flow through all my 7 chakra centers.

Problem solved. :)

Unless people post their references and footnotes along with their hypothesis, I think it's safe to say it's opinion over fact. Even if you were able to prove it applied to one person (very difficult as there's a good chance it could be purely psychological) it would not necessarily apply to another. Psychology I imagine plays a huge part in the creative process so I'm going to say that the chances of a technique working for one person is greatly dependent on whether or not the believe it does.

That said, my sex life has NO impact on my creativity. What inspires my creative chord more than anything else is to examine or enjoy the works of others.

well, i've begun to redo my comic. and my wife is 3k miles away.

coincidence? ianno, i'm with other people who say that the relationship (non-distant relationships) take out alot of the time you'd normally spend thinking up plans for world domination….or the next page…

Exactly. If you're having sex and a relationship, you have other things that are getting done.

I wouldn't say “cutting into” as much as “I want to do this more than that”. Not just sex, either, but spending the time with someone. When I was with my ex, I hardly ever sat down to play video games because I valued her time WAY more than my X360.

Now I'm taking my sexual frustrations out on the video games and my art projects…not that it's helping me much, but at least it gets my mind off of it.
