This timeline could change later as I work out details and make adjustments, but for now it should help clarify a lot of events in Harkovast background and the order in which they occurred. Anything on here may be changed in the future, in case I notice that I made a mistake or forgot something (or invent something else later!)

-1500:
(Approximate date) Prehistoric races (including the Vetalids and
Inquisitors) suffer a rapid decline, modern races begin rising to dominance.

-105: The White Kingdom is founded by the first White Empress.

0: The Lel Calendar begins

30: Darsai and Tolpish war begins

35: Golta Revolution

36: Tolpish Exodus begins, Ending war with Darsai

85: Zha-Tsung creates the philosophy of the Tsung-Dao

140: Nymus Republic founded

250: The Warrior King is born in the Al-Saigal Sultanate.

255: Knarl Empire expands, Tolpish join the Empire

271: The Knarl Empire conquers the Bardabor

272: The Mariner begins his attempt to unify the Eslum, beginning the Reign
of Suffering.

275: The Mariner is over thrown and flees to Xalkara.

276: Civilisation in Xalkara is at its height, the Lel exodus begins.

277: The demon plague begins

278: The rise of The King in the West begins.

279: Demon Plague ends

280: Destruction of Xalkaran civilisation is complete, the KITW takes complete
control of the western continent.

292: War between the Darsai and the Ivos begins. War quickly goes in the favour of the Darsai.

294: Centurion Dominus takes command of his Legion after their commanders
death and leads them to a series of stunning victories, turning around the
fortunes of the Ivos war effort.

297: First Nameless War begins with the invasion of Vellastrom by legions of
The Nameless Race led by the 14 Evils. The Darsai/Ivos war ends as the two
sides are united against the Nameless (largely due to the influence of the
wizard Quinn-Tain.)

301: The war ends with defeat for the forces of the West, though several of the
Evils survive and a large part of their armies escapes back to the West.
The alliance between the Nymus republic and Darsai Kingdom is formed to
ensure mutual protection and to safe guard Vellastrom as a whole.
The Knarl Empire invades the Cansaibe kingdom.

310: The Darsai Crusades against the Junlocks begin.

315: The Present-Nameless raids increase, as does bandit activity, fueling
fears that the King in the West will strike again soon. After the battle of
Napla, attacks within the Darsai kingdom stop abruptly.

The KITW does not fuck around.
The main reason for the delay in invading Vellastrom after the fall of Xalkara was that the KITW did not take Vellastrom very seriously as a threat or valuable territory.
After a few years of consolidating his rule he began to consider ways of expanding and cementing his power further.

Not valuable? If I was an evil overlord (especially one who doesn't have to contend with a united enemy) the first thing I'd do is make plans to invade the poor bastard next to me, and if that guy doesn't even know I exist? Perfect!

Most territory is valuable if only due to the resources found there, and in the case of Harkovast, the races that may be useful as allies or slaves.

Renard there is a whole ocean between The West and Vellastrom, so its not like he was looking over his shoulder and seeing them there and ignoring them! They were a long way off.
Also building the massive infra-structure and industry of the west took some time.

As his power grew so did his ambition, and his sense that all of Harkovast should fall under his dominion.
Since several of the 14 Evils were from Vellastrom, it was the logical first place to begin this new phase of expansion.
Since it has now resisted him, taking it over is a matter of pride, where he must repay the insult he has been dealt.

I forgot that the people of Harkovast haven't exactly explored the world and mapped it out. I suppose it wouldn't even be surprising if people in Vellastrom were unaware of land across the ocean prior to the attacks from the West.

I'm not sure if you can answer this (a bit of a spoiler maybe) but having seen the forces used by the West, and knowing that the King in the West is a probably a pretty brutal and goal-oriented sort, are there really any ‘citizens’ in his kingdom? Or would having a free population (regardless of size) be unwelcome.

I cant specify really at this point.
The details of the West will become clearer with time.
Right now, much like the denizens of Vellastrom, what you see of it is as much as you know.
Argh! It's so painful not being able to just explain all this stuff.

Still, I do like the description of the KITW as “Goal Orientated.”
That is pretty spot on.

You know, as soon as you mention prehistoric races and name one of them “Inquisitors” it is bound to get my attention. And as usual, this timeline raises more questions than it answers. Demon plague? Was the KITW part of it or the instigator of it or just taking advantage of it? So the Lel come from the West?

I remember talking about Dominus' rank some time back. I hope he did end up with a promotion after that whole saving the Ivos War Effort thing!

Wait… so which evils were offed? Who was left? Hmm. We know that the Harvester was wounded… “Squirrels! I hate them! With their big noses and fluffy bushy tails!” *BANG* “eep”. Ah Black Adder, is there any insanity that you wouldn't stoop to? I could almost see a Golta doing that…

Lots of good questions/thoughts there, but I don't want to commit too much at this point.

Perhaps I should work out a list of the 14 Evils titles, just to wet your appetites.

Dominus was promoted to the rank of praetor for his achievements in the war, just so thats clear.
These days though, his title is pretty meaningless. Dominus' name itself is famous enough to speak for itself.
