hi there. We just got a new scanner and we think it's really cool! Previously we had been scanning with a combined scanner/printer/copier machine but the image was coming up really faded, losing their bright colours and seeming over-exposed. We've realized a scanner with a high scan resolution makes a huge difference. These can't be found in the do-it-all printer/scanner machines. A stand alone scanner is really optimal. Working with pencils means sometimes if you are colouring large areas of light colours, dark smudges occur if tiny pieces of coloured pencil get mixed in. (I use a soft paint brush to brush away coloured granules as I work.) The new scanner is so good it showcases all the smudges and lines to perfection, so it makes a little more work for Dan to clean it up. While you may not notice smudges on the original, a high resolution scanner makes a big point of it. However, it's worth the trade off because the colours are so brilliant and the images clear, and the blending unadulterated.
I might recommend you get something with 4800X4800 dpi. The normal resolution of printer/scanner/copier machines falls flat at 1200X1200.

I'm curious if you have the older pages around still and were maybe considering re-scanning them? I don't know much about the process involved, but it would be interesting I think. It would be more work though, this is just a thought.

Plague Doctor: thanks, now go get new glasses! ha ha. It's good to have a record of improvement. It's uncanny how one can improve just by doing it. Don't know why it looks better. I don't know how efficiency makes for better art. Vast wants two a week thinking our posting dates are thin! I agree! but I can't work for him full time.
