I personally go for novelty and good writing. I can get tits anywhere on the internet. No point in forcing them into an otherwise good comic when multiple browser windows are a thing.

If it was just the tits, Pitface and Iba would be regular readers of my comics. Therefore, it's not just the tits.

Now if you do the tits right the reader won't have to have multiple windows and watch the computer freeze. (Damn fios.)

Switch to Spectrum - the Tits never freeze there!

That's actually my favorite comic; Tits!. It's sequel Tits! For Men. is pretty good too. 500 luscious, full-color pages, and the writing is amazing. Last month's issue where they thought lefty had cancer was a tear-jerker. I nearly cried when they talked about splitting up for an emergency transplant.

Now that's how you do tits right. I've got a major build-up of back-issues to work my way through too.

The dialogue.
If there is too much dialogue I will fall out of it immediately, or if the fonts are unreadable or hard to understand. It must be easy to read.
And we talk about CTRL+ALT+DEL dialogue here, or messy dialogue in general.
Of course I know alot of stories which uses alot of dialogue, and in some pages i think its acceptable but if there is close to nothing going on and just talking I get bored. I like it when stuff happens…..
Then of course art plays a role and it often says alot about the comic. There is alot of manga-styled comics out there looking like copies of other manga-styles, they can have good stories but they're often harder for me to get attention to. And of course, story is important factor but before you even get to that point you need to bear through the comic itself and then it must be readable.

A number of different things. My first is Super hero/ Super villain type stuff like “Willem”, and “Heroes Alliance” HUniverse related stuff(Cross-overkill, Dude in Distress) 2) comedy/ Drama stuff like “Torn Vines” and “No Future Vanish In Time” 3) Sex stuff like Transneptunian for 2 reasons. Jetta and the Space Facts El Cid keeps putting up.

There are some old school comics I read from time to time. like ‘Shell’, ‘Grind’, ‘CrossoverKill I & II, ’Lena', ‘Edepth Angel’ ‘Karabear Comics Unlimited’, ‘Death porn’, and ‘Simply Sarah’ to name a few. I look for color, art, and store style. This place my number 1 spot for reading Independent comics.

Intriguing avatar. Something that is a clear image that catches your eye.
Description Clear, concise with a hook. No walls of text. It's supposed to be a hook to get me to read not a synopsis. Think “elevator pitch” You have this great idea and you have to pitch it to a producer in a fifteen to thirty seconds in an elevator.

And that's before we get to the comic. You have to draw them in before you get them to read.

Images are the first thing.

Page layout without a huge banner. I'm there to read the comic not appreciate your banner.

No busy background. Don't distract from the comic. It's what I'm there for.

And that's all before I even get to the first panel.

I'm looking for a comic that is more to action and blood shed. Also, I want a story that is full of twist and wisdom.

None of that here, just pretty pictures and massive tits. Like the avatar. The old Matchbox British World War 2 infantry shooting figure.

The things that make a comic worthwhile to me are:
1) A concept that interests me
2) Compelling artwork
3) Complex characters
4) Strong narrative

In that order.

If a comic has a concept that doesn't interest me, I will give it a skip even if the art is of a very high level.
By “compelling artwork”, I don't necessarily mean professional grade artwork. Just something that expresses the author's unique vision and personality.

And it seems we've come full circle back to Amy of Darkness's “personality”

But you know there are a few comics with tons of personality but few readers. So keep looking. Try something different, you might be surprised that shit you felt not worth a bucket of warm spit is halfway worth your time after all. But it takes more one page for that. ;)

Once it took an entire archive to find that out and I was pleasantly surprised.

^This, there is alot of good stories out there but often people choose what appeals more first. I've read so many almost proffesionally drawn comic stories- however I seem to always go back to the ones which is maybe still in a learning process but their story just appeals more.
Its easy to find what appeals and draw a story about it but its not really what interests me. Its easy to see when someone draws something because they actually like the story themselves vs someone who draws because hey, pretty boys doing it for 20+ pages but with storyline which is medicore but who cares its pretty boys! (no offence to shounen ai stories though, some are actually pretty good, its just so many jumping on that bandwagon without daring to experiment enough with it or pulling it out of that eternal loop of has been done before).

What would hook me to reading a comic in order of importance:

1. An intro scene that captures me (be it the dialogue, the action, the situation or the suspense)
2. At least one character that intrigues me (could be character design, character behavior, dialogue or all of that)
3. A relatively quick pace (it doesn't have to be action, but the plot should be dynamic, give me the impression it's advancing either through character development or through events)
4. An interesting premise or setting
5. Good art (i.e. good enough that I'm not distracted by it)

For me it's really just, What are you trying to say and does that interest me?

The actual art, for me, is really, really really low on the list of things I find important. I've read a lot of engrossing work that's little more than scribbles in terms of art– but the message and the story was interesting.

I would much prefer that over awesome eye candy.
