So whats the appropriate size for a comic header? I'm not sure if there is a maximum or minimum limit soooooo…………

The best advice is to make them small like the size of the leaderboard ad banner: 720x90.
Big comic headers piss off your readers because they have to scroll past them every time they look at a new page.

What size would you recommend for our avatar file?

Avatars are 80x80 pretty much I think.
You could try making them any size and load them in the system and see if that works. I think they a;; get resized down.
