So, right now I'm busy working on Imago, Nebraska and I'll have a lot of translating to do when it comes to Blessed Days, but the DDA spirit made me realize how much I enjoy contributing in this community. Now, I will be referencing comics in Imago, Nebraska (something I've neglected to do so far), but soon-ish I'll have a website ready where I should be able to run my own blog and write about the comics I read. The domain is already bought, I just have to build it up nicely when I'll get the time. I'm no professional reviewer, there are a lot of aspects, mostly technical that I can't write much about, not to mention my lack of history with comics in general. But I should be able to find unique perspectives for writing about a work or two and recommend them if I like what I read. Maybe do it in some super-creative way and if it's not too complicated, in Hungarian also, which will allow for more people to engage with said works. Needless to say, I'm going to grab images for reference or for listing personal faves when it comes to said works. I'm looking forward to making it fun and interesting. Perhaps finding even more fun and interesting ways for people to contribute if they wish so. Will be posting the url here once it goes live.

I recently broached this subject again on social media; this is what I had to reiterate. . . .

Whenever people look at my content after I promote/advertise, the responses are usually along the lines of, “You're desperately crying for attention,” “You're shamelessly plugging yourself,” “Your content sucks, that's why you have no followers.”

Whenever people find my content on their own, the responses are usually along the lines of, “This is an underrated masterpiece,” “This is an overlooked gem,” “You're so original, why do you not have more followers”?

And that's why I never advertise.

So, yeah, that.

The only bad publicity is no publicity. There's the old story of the poor man who prayed to god everyday that he would win the lottery and be thereby free of all monetary worries. He faithfully prayed for years.
At last he implored god and asked why had god not answered his prayers so that he would win the lottery.
God replied, “I am doing my best, but first you have to buy a ticket.”
If you don't put it out there, no one will ever know. Let them say what they will.

Do it anyway.

I guess much of the point of it is creating free advertisement for other people's works so it won't be self-promotion. But anyone can opt-out here if they'd rather not have their works written about somewhere down the line.

Sounds like a great idea, especially given the decreasing usefulness of social media for promoting comics. Looking forward to seeing more, I know it'll be interesting.

This is why I wish my own site had more pull than it does. With the way we're all being smashed down on so-called “social media”, it feels like we're almost going to have to go back to web rings / link pages.

Yeah I guess there's not much of a point doing it now. Not that I'd have the time to do it for a couple of more months, but with the paneltastic site doing exactly that it'd be just even more money out the window to try and run my own. If I cancel it now I've only lost… 61€.

That's actually a sad sign of the times, unfortunately. Even forums are more-or-less relics of the past at this point. Personally, I miss the days of being involved in and engaged with an actual virtual community of like-minded people with whom you could have in-depth conversations, which, as I said before, probably explains why I was a little too eager to jump into CF's forum community when I attempted to set up shop there: I was looking to fill a void.

But, I digress. Social media has, unfortunately, nade other forms of web content almost moot. I have a blog of my own, I call it my Scarblog, and I used to typically cross-post anything I had to say on there as well as social media - especially if I had more of an articly-type of something to write and share, such as a review, a retrospective, going into behind-the-scenes stories, and the like; it was far easier to organize my thoughts and write them (as well as include pictures) in a blog format than it was a social media post . . . nowadays, I find it's just easier to just post about this stuff on Facebook, and more people are likely to see it anyway than they are on a blog. Blogging in general is kind of a dinosaur at this point - even blogs I used to follow have long been closed, discontinued, or even deleted.

I admire the desire to want to help support each other in our artistic and comic endeavors, it certainly is an ambitious idea, but I think you guys do have a point about social media sort of making it kind of irrelevant in this day and age. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind at all if you wanted to give VAMPIRE GIRL a little boost (and I do still appreciate the plug for my Redbubble shop on Paneltastic).
