Mediapass issues- IMPORTANT

Mediapass is an ad, not spyware apparently.

-Update: The add has been removed from the site! -

If you still have problems though:

As a temporary fix, if you're running firefox, install adblocker here:
(It won't let me post another link so if you have Chrome just do a Google search for adblock on Chrome.)

Now when you're on a DD page, click your adblock icon, if you've got one up, look at the list of blockable items, select them and block them one by one.
- Media pass would be the one to kill :)
Sorry Internet Explorer users, I do not know if there is a reliable ad-blocker out there to recommend.

I tried to post this yesterday but then the Duck 504'd it away, but what I was going to say was that blocking Wowio's ads from revenue doesn't help this site or its artists either. Ostensibly we want Wowio to make money so they can fix the problems on this site so we can get into a better ad network that doesn't break the site every chance it gets. Also, I was specifically referring to other sites I'd visit with an adblock on, and I'm pretty sure that's what geneseepaws meant, too.

Artist's revenue on DD... lol

Amelius at 8:28PM, Nov. 6, 2012

YAY! Glad to hear it was taken care of!

Ozoneocean at 3:50PM, Nov. 6, 2012

mediapass was taken down.

Genejoke at 1:04PM, Nov. 6, 2012

In regards to artists revenue... well it doesn't apply here as the artists cannot advertise here it all goes to wowio.

And I agree with Amelius. I've noticed some page load problems associated with the ad stream as well. Hopefully the admins can limit the stream's bandwidth so it doesn't keep the other page elements from loading. We shall see. Luck to them.

Maybe they work for Hydra?

SLK8ne at 11:18AM, Nov. 6, 2012

Well, it wasn't just in Firefox. I tried Opera and Chromium and it was raising it's obnoxious head in all three browsers.

Amelius at 10:44AM, Nov. 6, 2012

Ah, so that would explain why I had a devil of a time trying to find it and kill it from my HD! That's a bit of a relief! But still, wow... the ads are really trying to destroy the site lately! Thanks for the recommendation of adblocker, I had some of the same reservations that geneseepaws mentioned about blocking adverts but hearing I can weed them out individually sounds pretty good to me!

All I can do is ask for something to be done about it. Obviously if something like that were ever to be permanent people would have to take their comics down and host them somewhere else just for the sake of getting readers which you can't get with something like that in the way.

Ozoneocean at 6:33AM, Nov. 6, 2012

Adblocker only blocks the ads you want it to. You can tell it not to block ads you'd like to see. :)

geneseepaws at 5:59AM, Nov. 6, 2012

Still, it seems like extortion, make it go away, Please.

geneseepaws at 5:51AM, Nov. 6, 2012

They might not use an ad-blocker because they know that certain artists cannot maintain their web presence without the revenue that comes from allowing ads to post their wares? That's a pretty compelling reason, if you are a web comics addict. Not saying I'm one of them, --- just saying, ....

Ozoneocean at 5:39AM, Nov. 6, 2012

If you're running Firefox or Chrome as your browser then adblocker is free. People are discussing it's use and the Mediapass problem here: http://www.drunkduck.com/forum/topic/175389/

shastab24 at 5:05AM, Nov. 6, 2012

Well, I, for one, don't know how to get one. Are there any for free?

Genejoke at 3:31AM, Nov. 6, 2012

Why would anyone NOT have an ad blocker on?
