Travel Diary: Niagara Falls

I have this travel journal that I carry around with me for inspiration and one of the suggested activities it to take time to stare out the window, whether in an airplane, bus, or subway car. I realised that too much of my day is spent staring at the gorilla glass screen of my tablet and not enough looking out the window daydreaming.

One week ago I was lucky enough to go on a spontaneous trip to Niagara Falls. I looked out the window and the massive ice mounds had not melted along the waterfall. The longest six-month Winter was just about to retire and Spring was ready to take over. I walked up to the railing and snapped a picture of the Falls.

It is so important to take time to go outside and enjoy nature, especially after those long afternoons hunched over a computer monitor while working on a webcomic. Sometimes there is a disconnect between the time spent in the virtual world versus the world outside, which can be easily ignored.

So here's a drawing exercise for this week: Go outside. Pay attention to the environment around you, whether you live in the wilderness or a bustling urban city and sketch it out.

Man, that's so true. Nature is beautiful, even trees make a whole lot of difference in a crowded city. Hahah Gorilla Glass XD

Ah. I miss Niagara Falls -- and also Toronto -- and Maine. I haven't been north in over a decade. I just got hired on again as a National Park Service ranger on the coast of North Carolina. Saturday, we went over to one of the islands, which was an hour trip on our big utility barge. Rough water too. I kinda like rough water. Makes things interesting. (Working outside makes me look forward to locking myself indoors on my days off. I'm living in an RV, so I have a ton of windows and am never really too far from nature.)
