You've been tasked with illustrating the graphic novel memoirs of an evil king. Hey, the pay's alright - you can do this! The catch is, he's locking you up in an isolated tower somewhere with only three art supplies of your choice until the project is done. Assuming that you get EITHER your choice of paper or a computer and tablet, what do you bring? (Note: If you go digital then you have to choose three ‘tools,’ e.g. brush tool, pen tool and magic wand. The tools can be from different software programs.)
My choices:
I'm going traditional! I like inking and colouring digitally, but I never feel quite comfortable doing the initial sketch on a screen. Maybe one day they'll invent a screen with a nice rough sketchbook texture and I'll migrate. Until then, here's what I'm bringing.
1. Mechanical pencils - good ol' Bics. I'm going to be using this as an excuse to not ink anything, because inking is the worst.
2. Grumbacher watercolour paints. My high school art teacher gave me two sets of these before I graduated (along with a bunch of other stuff because he was awesome) and I swear by them. Grumbachers also come with a pretty good brush, so no need to bring other brushes!
3. Promarkers. I'm new to art markers so there could very well be better ones on the market, but I like them a lot. They're vibrant, smooth colours and each marker has a thin end as well as a thick end, so if I have to go back on my never-inking-again pledge that's an option.
What are your must-have comic-ing supplies?

I'm not as digitally materful as bravo, but I've already used three different selection tools before I draw a single line, so I'll have to go traditional. I choose 5611 pencil, kneadable eraser and google.

Digitally there is no surviving for me with three tools. I'm way too multi media for that. Traditionally I can go minimalist but digital I have to have all the tricks and tools. I've spent all these years learning all the keyboard commands in Photoshop I'll be damned if I give up the tools.

@strixvanallan - Ah! Erasers! Of course! Gotta have erasers!

@bravo1102 - that's what I thought at first. That this journal was going to be about natural supplies, like pigments from berries and such. XD I would never go with traditional stuff, or the king would have my head chopped. I'm THE WORST at doing anything traditionally but the pencils. I can't colour, I can't paint and I definietly can't ink with pens. xD My choice would be a nice computer with Paint Tool SAI + tablet, and I would need the 'pen' tool for sketching and painting, the 'stabilizing' tool from SAI to correct my darned shaking hands and the eraser. Oh, god, the eraser. Must-have.

Bravo is a genius...! And we could also use our own blood and bodily secretions, like De Sade did in the movie 'Quills'...!!

Why would I need any supplies? Brushes, ink and pigments could be made from stuff on the island already. You have wood and fire you'll have charcoal which mixed with water makes a fine ink as itself is your pencil. You have hair so there are your brushes. It's a desert island so it's tropical? Various rocks, insects, plants and sea creatures can supply pigment. If it's a volcanic island that's another source of ink or pencil.

Ok, so in the face of the gallows it is (in order of priority): 1. large eraser that doesn't smear 2. grade H pencil 3. my trusty set of fineliner pens, sizes 0.05, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 (there's two more sizes in there but I hardly ever use them) I trust that a well-equipped bar and an - ahem - "personal secretary" are standard equipment for isolated towers anyway.

1. ball pen 2. beer 3. --- (I won't need to stay very long, so why bother?) That'll teach him to treat an artist like that and expect quality, evil king or no. ;)

Great question! Doing the comic memoirs of an evil King - cool story, too. I'd try and sneak in ironic, satirical criticisms of that King without being caught. I'd go with paper rather than a computer, and then 1. Mechanical pencils, 2. Ultra Fine Sharpies, and 3. Hmmm...I wouldn't know what to use for color. I guess I'd go with pencil crayons. Then to celebrate finishing each chapter I could have a pencil crayon bonfire and cook some mudbugs for dinner.

2 female nude supermodels and a bottle of vodka… oh, you mean art supplies?…

Pencil, pen, gorgeous nude model. ;-)
KimLuster at 4:28AM, May 29, 2015
I think I'd be in good shape: I'm close to what you've chose already: mechanical pencils, watercolor paints, and a very fine Sharpie pen. By you example I'm assuming the paper itself doesn't count as an item, nor the brushes ;)
