Firstly, let me get the self-promotion out of the way. Sunday just gone I started a third story arc for my comic Energize (www.theduckwebcomics.com/energize), which originally launched on this site, 10 years ago that day. It's called Energize and if you like Superhero comics, please come check it out!
So, I grew up reading superhero comics and always wanted to write and draw my own so originally I set my comic up on smackjeeves where I came across an awesome comic called AD1997 by Abt_Nihil (www.theduckwebcomics.com/user/abt_nihil), then I discovered drunkduck. I got featured within the first few weeks and found there to be a wealth of like minded creators and an amazing community of superhero comics.
This inspired the idea to create the community project Heroes Unite, which prompted me to get in touch with Abt_Nihil about this site. He is a tremendous talent that has created some great comics here since then – the best of which in my opinion is no doubt Holon (www.theduckwebcomics.com/holon). A true sci-fi classic in his unique style that always makes his work easily identifiable. But asking him to help kick start Heroes Unite led to Bombshell and eventually Heroes Alliance, showing his versatility in the Superhero genre.
I honestly think that some of the strongest comics on this site are from superhero genre. I urge anyone to go to the comics section, filter out “Superhero” and look through the list of titles. In fact the only reason I even discovered drunkduck was through reading Dasien by Neilsama (www.theduckwebcomics.com/dasien). Everyone probably reads this already, but for those who don't it's not just a superhero comic about a Blonde bombshell, well…it is… but Neilsama has a modern style that at the same time throws back many retro references. His art is simple but has life, capturing expression and emotion with a skill akin to Archie.
There are so many talented creators that go unnoticed. The Heroes Alliance community project that sprouted from Heroes Unite, demonstrates the solid talent and creative community on the duck. Check their forums to see the level of effort and commitment that goes into each issue. They all care passionately not just about their own comic, but the wider universe it shapes as well. Fukujinzuke the artist of Handsom & Ransom and Shell (www.theduckwebcomics.com/user/fukujinzuke), did not get enough praise, his work is always solid. PIT_FACE has beautifully consistent work (www.theduckwebcomics.com/putrid_meat). Ironhand has been a solid contributor to art but has a real talent for stories. He has written and co-written work for the HA project and they are some of their best issues. They are currently updating their latest issue, written by him. But there are others as well. Irrevenant (www.theduckwebcomics.com/user/irrevenant) expends a huge effort to help maintain and organize this “HUniverse”, going so far as to help ensure details are in order in the wiki site!
I could rant for ages about the creators I have had the privilege to work with over the last 10 years on this site, but have to say my favorite artist on the site, because the style reminds me of Bruce Timm, is Essaybee of Fusion (http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/Essay_Bee_Comics_Presents_Fusion/). Fusion is probably the top superhero comic on the site so would be hard pushed to have gone unnoticed, but sometimes the greatness of this can overshadow his other comic Dude in Distress (www.theduckwebcomics.com/dude_in_distress), which I believe he will be continuing later this month.
Anyway, Superhero comics are my thing and this site serves that genre better than any other. Energize: Black is the new story - check it out :)

Nice overview of the superhero comics here, as well as the strong community that creates some of these great series--and has inspired encouraged others to get in the game. (And thanks for the kind words and shoutouts to my comics--and Dude in Distress will indeed continue, starting this coming Monday, as a matter of fact!) That said, I'm really glad to see Energize back!

Thanks for the positive feedback to the article. You never know, if they let me, maybe I could do another one :)

Cool article, Nepath. If it wasn't for you Starting HU and the HA universe, SolarCell would not exist today. So thank you and sooooo many others for keeping HUniverse alive. So glad to see you back behind the wheel. I also second A genre Spotlight.

Ohey, The Duck added the ability to filter by "superhero" when I wasn't looking - very cool! And thanks for the shoutout, Nepath. :) I second the call for more genre spotlights, it's a great idea. I recommend everyone check out Heroes Unite and Heroes Alliance (and if you feel like chipping in with HA, more help is always welcome, especially on the art side). Another cool superhero comic I just discovered is Victory. Cool concept, nice art and it's been going strong for years. Salamander is off to a good start too...

Good post, but I want to point out: you misspelled fukujinzuke's username, so the link to his profile doesn't work (you have an S instead of a Z on there).

This was a great newspost. There should be more spotlighting great examples of different genres!

The superheroes stuff on here is what got me back into writing and wanting to actually get better at drawing. So thanks for the inspiration Nepath!
