DD is always improving and getting better!
We've JUST now had an upgrade to give us our own webcomic ad system so we can support ourselves again as well as some other features that I'll tell you about, but first up we've got a new Patreon! Now you can support us and contribute to new upgrades and features for the future. :)

We added a “Create Comic” link to your profile pages so now it's nice and obvious and where it should be!
The next upgrade we're planning is to make the site blue and oh so much more cooler and updated using template by our very own Emma Clare. That version of the site will be adaptive so it should work on all screen and windows sizes, so it'll be just as great on tablets as it is on computers and phones! Your contributions will be going towards that. No more greeeeeen and harsh yellow.

Noted! :) I've heard of people being stung with that. It's pretty evil. We'll do some considering with the removal of ads (for an individual) for a perk contribution. Obviously that involves programming and that costs money so there's the problem... how much does it cost VS how much will we make etc (same with the HTML), my preference would be to throw them in the bucket along with other changes we pay for next time we have another big update.

I mean I didn’t understand what the custom ad space thing would be :p For the html thing if it was a patreon only perk it’d limit who has access and it’d be a pretty big waste of money to do that just to add something malicious imo And disabling ads would be an even further perk. So in theory you’d be getting more $$$ than what their ads alone would have helped provide. Another note: you’re probably aware of this but for larger money perks be sure not to reward till the payment comes in. As example, if I was evil I could remove my contributions before the 1st of the month when I’d be billed. So I’d get my reward for free. Obviously won’t be doing that. Just giving a heads up if you were not aware.

With no ads, again I'm not sure. The main thing with the hatred of ads was that they were non-comic things that looked horrible and polluted the site, but since we started using Project Wonderful and now this system that all changed so there wasn't a hatred of them or a need to get rid of them. The ads are there to pay for the hosting, theoretically if all those costs and site debts are paid for by Patrons then there's no need for ads! That said My current DD debit from just July is over $1125 US dollars- that's money from my own pocket for hosting and programming costs directly spent on the site, and that doesn't count pre-existing debits, so it'll be a while before we get rid of ads :(

We'd make the ad graphic for them? Hmmm, I'm honestly not sure about html control now at this stage. In 2018 HTML is a lot more powerful than it used to be in 2004... things have changed a lot in that time. A site with full HTML control could be weaponised so easily. Although Live Journal is still alive and kicking and that allows some HTML in posts there, as does Libsyn, though I'm pretty sure it's just the equivalent of what we do in BB code (links, text styles etc). This is something that will need detailed discussion!
