Coming up with character names can be a real challenge because once you settle on one they can define the character just as much as their personality and looks! Names also affect how you name other characters: are they too similar, like Betty and Barney? Will it be an unintentionally meaningful combo like George and Washington? There are so many things to consider, it can be daunting.
In this Quackcast we talk about some of the methods that duckers have used to come up with character names. It's pretty novel and interesting, anything from using friend's names, names that have special meaning to them, names that have inerrant meaning, names that deliberately have NO meaning, place-holder names, names from the phonebook and more. Your options, methods, and reasons are endless!

About creating names, I followed a simple rule a Hollywood producer once said, listen to the name sound. If the sound vibrates like the character, it's the right name. For example: Cyrenna (Sai-Ree-nah). It makes tsssssh sound, like a snake. For me, it sounds aggressive and old (like something from a century BC). And Gambini, well, it's from Gambino, obviously. Other names I used metaphors, like Montagna (one of the enemies in my story). Montagna means Mountain, reflecting the obstacle to the protagonist.

Totally true, in fact my characters (I only have just 6 right now) have japanese names and all have a match with their personalities. Hitomi: beautiful eyes; Hayate: hurricane; Kokoro: heart; Kira: killer; Kokatsu: sly; Rein: rain. Pretty simple and basic.

Interesting topic. I’m going to talk about 2. SolarCell and DarkBeauty names’. SolarCell, Indulgance and Erica is the same person. She is Gluttony’s daughter & I made her mother name her ‘Indulgance’, ‘Ina’ for short. SolarCell came from one of my older Villian character named Solar Cell. (I’ve always liked that name.) I used that name also to kind of ‘fix’ the krypton theory of how Superman get his energy from the “Sun”. I just made her powers work from all forms of electromagnetic spectrum giving to her by her mom as a form of ‘divine light’. Erica is what I would name my daughter if I ever get 1. DarkBeauty came from 2 older characters of mine named Devisha and Dark Beauty that I made into the current DarkBeauty. Plus, there were no characters of mine from Jamaica. Since my family is from Jamaica, I decided to pay a tribute to Jamaica by making her a Jamaican superhero. Her human name, Devisha is an odd Jamaican name I came across & thought it sounded cool at some time ago.
