Today we're talking fans! Isn't it great to have them? We're all fans of something, but as webcomicers having fans means they're a dedicated audience who care about your creative output and send their love and appreciation to you- this really helps you stay motivated and inspired to keep on creating and producing new work. Here we talk about our experiences with fans and of BEING fans.

It helps that we're fans of each other. But we also chat about some of the things we're fans off. What are your fan experiences and what are YOU a fan off?

This week Gunwallace has given us the theme to Slow Burn: A Wildfire Journal - This music smoulders away like red glowing coals. Heat emanates from this thick, tasty bass line, the guitar singes away like fire, picking up volume and power till it’s hosing all and sundry with liquid flame!

@oz: Some of my favorites are, but it depends on the genre. Shooter games have been that way since the 90s. They just had crap graphics, and the first person perspective is nauseating. Some shooters pulled the camera back, making it cinematic. Jrpgs haven't changed much. They replaced all the reading with full voice acting. However, "interactive fiction" is literally a playable movie, and it is more common than it used to be. It used to be a playable book. Sometimes it uses quick action or choosing your dialogue. Some games blend that with other gameplay (like strategy game or shooter). But it's just a genre. One that seems to cater to casual (and women) audiences. It really isn't the case for all of gaming, but it's a niche genre that is popular. Unless you are just referring to the improved graphics, removal of heads-up displays, and the switch to voice acting over reading to make things immersive, which has been happening across all genres.

@Ozoneocean - I've gotten that impression from a lot of gamers on the internet. It's one of the reasons, along with the godaweful bussiness practices of the modern game industry that I've heard of, why I don't play modern video games anymore.

Video games now are basically fully interactive movies...

I have to catch up with my animations!

My fandom lies in animation. Lupin III, Detective Conan, Bob's Burgers, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Gumball. I'm also a fan of a lot of classic TV. And of video game franchises, Uncharted, Dragon Quest, Tales games (by Namco), Telltale Games (before they folded). I get a kick out of some modern series, but ones with fandoms I can't say I'm part of the fandom. Like, I wouldn't buy merch or anything.

Recently I feel like I've become a fan of the horror video game series "Condemned" for the Xbox 360. I'm not really into horror games or horror fiction in general, but Condemned 1 & 2 are horror games that I really enjoyed playing and want to come back to playing. I honestly don't think I've ever felt as hooked on a franchise as I have with this one, it might just be my favourite game series of all time. I've also watched YT reviews of the game. They all seem to agree that the second game "Condemned 2" is a failed sequel from a horror standpoint. And I get what they're saying. From a subjective standpoint, it's a perfectly good sequel for me personally, because after playing the first game I kind of want the second one not to be as horrific as the first, a game that helps take the sting out of the first one (so I can sleep afterwards^^). From an objective standpoint, I do admit that it is not a good horror game sequel. I'm not gonna go out and argue for it. I'm just gonna keep playing.
