Happy 2021 everybody!!!!! For this fun first of year Quackcast We do a commentary and reaction to the Ralph Bakshi and Frank Frazetta classic sword and sorcery animated movie from 1983, Fire and Ice! Tantz and Banes have never, ever seen it before so it was a new experience to them and maybe to YOU as well?
Fire and Ice is a simple fantasy story about evil prince Necron who wants to rule over all the lands using his control of a huge glacier. Brave Princess Teegra, Larn (mullet head), and Darkwolf (the Deathdealer), team up to battle to stop him destroying the southern lands. It was done with rotoscoped animation which made the figures look quite realistic. Rotoscoping is basically filming real actors and then taking out the background and painting over their bodies and turning them into cartoons. It's an analogue old fashion way of doing motion capture, like they do in modern 3D CGI animation.
Our Commentary begins at the 16.40 minute mark! To watch along with us, go to https://youtube.com and search for “Fire and Ice”
The musical feature this week that Gunwallace has given us is theme to O Sarilho: Exotic, Eastern, jazzy groove with a European flare. Lush green piano, bone dry desert winds of the jazz flute, hot sun of the bass shining down on the beautiful sands of the solid percussion below, warm, glittering and stable.

Yeah, the beginning was quite rough looking, thats funny I didn't realize he played Necron. Those over actors.....
Ozoneocean at 5:28AM, Jan. 8, 2021
I liked it but Necron was poor, his magic ritual of sitting down and squishing his face back looked silly and gave him and 30 chins... I think it was the same guy from American Pop who played the hippie drug dealer... he tended to over act.

And the room where they kidnap the princess looked really cool

I like the part in the film when Mullethead is almost eaten by the underwater creature and he stabs it in the eye and is hurled through the air. The princess looked pretty damn good too

Visually, I think the movie really excelled. It was based on Frazetta's fantasy artwork, and in that I think it excelled. The story...was simple, yes, but not very good, I remember. I especially hated the way it just completely fell apart by the end and didn't reward sticking with it at all. If it hadn't been animated, it probably would have been unwatchable, frankly.

This was awesome:D I'll have to watch the movie with this quackcast on one of these days. I have watched the movie before though, several times on youtube, and it was awesome enough to hear you guys just shoot your observations. I wouldn't mind at all hearing this new kind of quackcast again sometime. Especially with Pit's suggestion. Rock and Rule is an awesome piece of animation classics. If you are, just keep in mind going in, "his name is Mok, thanks a lot"^^

The story is simple... It's not really garbage, just super, dooper basic. A lot happens visially that you miss unless you're paying close attention.

Ah, I think I remember that film. Visually, it was very beautiful and well done overall, but its story was total garbage. I keep meaning to watch Starchaser. I even have it sitting there waiting for me to watch it! But I haven't yet. I am glad someone is keeping these titles alive by discussing them!
