There are so many really silly cliché myths from fiction that we all just tend to accept. They're objectively stupid but they get repeated so often that we don't bat an eye when we see them and we can even start to believe them in reality. I thought it'd be fun to dig into them in a Quackcast. I made a thread in the forum for people to contribute to. Unfortunately we didn't get to many in the Quackcast but there's always time to do another!

Just so you get an idea of what I mean, here are some bellow:
- That Indian burial grounds are magical and can cause spirits to come to the land of the living.
- that demons speak Latin, or Aramaic, or ancient Greek or any other bronze Age language.
- that guns can't harm demons or monsters.
- that dangerous animals and insects are evil and they want to kill you.
- that people get blasted through the air when shot by guns.
- that all native people can track stuff anywhere and live off the land and that they're also close to the spirit world etc…
- That security lasers are red beams and easy to avoid.
- That women in the 19th century always complained about tight corsets.
- that peasants were dirty and never washed.
- That back-flips are the best way to doge when in a fight.
- That using paired weapons in each hand is always better and means a person is super deadly and skilled.
- That wearing a sword on your back is a good idea.
- The Heimlich Maneuver is the standard medical and scientifically endorsed way to stop someone choking.

More fiction myths please!

This week Gunwallace has given us the theme to Untitled Brick Comic - Piano notes step back and forth, swaying, prevaricating, halting, hesitating, before taking the leap into action to dance, spin and twirl on the glowing dance floor to this 90s inspired dance track.

Haha, neither of "witch" he'd be able to draw from those scabbards ;)

"Two swords in case one is not enough."

Ozoneocean at 8:50PM, Feb. 22, 2022

@Wildcat- yeah, that annoying about armour... it's usually pretty pointless.

Ozoneocean at 8:49PM, Feb. 22, 2022

@Jason- Fair enough if that's a justification but when a monster is vulnerable to pushes, punches and cuts with a sword or even being hit by a car, then it's sure as hell vulnerable to a pullet haha!

Hahaha, Backflips AND lasers

Ozoneocean--You forgot one of the great combos of your list: backflips (and miscellaneous acrobatics) are the best way to avoid those red security lasers.

Jason Moon--Kudos for the Ash vs Evil Dead shoutout! The decapitation (or head explosion) bit was sort of a gentle retcon from the original Evil Dead where the body had to be completely dismembered (and even then, the little chunks still wiggled). In this case, the demons were a force that took control of the flesh and weren't beholden to the limits of human physiology. The limits of human physiology is why regular zombies are such a ridiculous idea. (How can a body even move with decayed muscle/no tendons, let alone no heart to pump blood to the muscles?)

My personal favourite - armor does nothing and can be easily cut with a sword.

Jason Moon at 10:05AM, Feb. 22, 2022

- "that guns can't harm demons or monsters." I actually really like that one because it's scary in an otherworldly sense. "Ash Vs. the evil dead" you can pump a deadite full of lead and it's still going to be trying to kill you. Like the core of the demon is unphased by the mortal body and taking off the head destroys the link of the deadite in the human body. Ashy slashy
