What Would You Like in the DD Quackcast?

Tantz_Aerine at 12:00AM, Oct. 15, 2022
likes!

So, the DD site is very close to getting that much-needed face lift and overhaul! Oz's post from yesterday is the right stuff, announcing what we've all been working, rooting, hoping for!

He mentioned in his comments that the Quackcast perhaps is …a little too esoteric… as we often follow our train of thought when we discuss various issues or topics. Even if it isn't, we can always use feedback and improve, so this is where you come in!

Do you listen to the Quackcast? If so, what do you like about it? What do you dislike? What do you hate?

If you don't, what would make you listen to the DD podcast on the reg or at all? Would you like us to discuss certain topics? Maybe have more frequent guests? Perhaps offer our advice more frequently?

Or perhaps you'd like it if we commented on art scene current events, like things happening in the comics and webcomics scene, controversies, and the like?

Or perhaps you'd like something I have no way to imagine, but I'd love to know. We all would! The point of the Quackcast is to offer more to the community, and the community is you.

So, what would make the Quackcast better, to go with the better site? Inquiring DD minds want to know!

Don’t forget you can now advertise on DrunkDuck for just $2 in whichever ad spot you like! The money goes straight into running the site. Want to know more? Click this link here! Or, if you want to help us keep the lights on you can sponsor us on Patreon. Every bit helps us!

Special thanks to our patrons!!

The very few podcasts i listen to all have youtube channels. Because I'm lazy and I hate dealing with webplayers & different podcast sites. So that's the one piece of feedback i would give: Put it on youtube. Where i can have it all in one place, i can save and stop and pick it back up whenever i want to, i can easily listen to it on my phone... it's just endlessly more convenient. (I'm not a google shill, honest. I just don't even know what a Stitcher is.)

I have been listening regularly since around episode 300. I like the featured comic, featured fashion, and Gunwallace's Jukebox. Sometimes I turn on of the three episodes that had all of his music. I think you could talk a bit more about the featured comic. I also miss when would read forum topics and discuss them. It's good that you keep the show around 60 minutes since I rarely listen to anything longer than that, even if I like it. I always feel like the Quackcast is too short, and that's a good thing. I wouldn't mind more two-parters. Also, Tantz is very funny.

Could have a miniseries of interviews about the creative process of several creators with very different creative styles. Or a panel discussion among folks who share a style. Like two or three who do 3D modeling. But not so free form but fixed questions to compare and contrast.

stoppittttttt (but thank you XD I giggled)

@bravo1102 and some might say listening to her voice is like drifting away on an ocean of Greek honey while the cares of the world gently fade from view, but these comments are for Quackcast suggestions, not embarrassing Tantz ;D. Along with Jerrie's call for more interviews, it would be great to hear people talk more about their process as there are some fascinating and very different methods employed here. We could all learn something useful I'm sure. Genejoke was telling me about his 3D process and that's witchcraft to me, fascinating stuff.

See? What did I tell you? The very image of Tantz blushing would put a smile on anyone's face. :D

Tantz_Aerine at 12:51AM, Oct. 16, 2022

Keep them coming people! This is invaluable! // @bravo: you're making me blush. XD

bravo1102 at 9:59PM, Oct. 15, 2022

Tantz doesn't do funny. She does insightfully witty. It's often very dry and requires thought so you'll find yourself breaking up into hysterical laughter an hour later.

jerrie at 1:24PM, Oct. 15, 2022

I'd like to see more interviews with the different artists that post comics on this site. you used to do them. I enjoyed the interviews, but haven't seen you do them for a while.

The Quackcast, and Drunk Duck awards, along with a very accepting community are features that are unique to the site. There are talented cartoonists on this site who have been published and we even have a former Xeric award winner. They respond to comments and will return personal quacks. As such, retention and improvement of these unique features is to be encouraged. In some circles, the Duck is looked upon as just a "mirror" site. I do not post my comic in these circles. I'm inclined to agree with Bravo. Also, Gun Wallace is a treasure.

Gonna wrack my brain for more thoughts, but here's a suggestion! Maybe a segment where you pick a genre and select 5 comics that are in that category and discuss, compare and contrast how they approach the genre. It can highlight some of the talent we got here, bring attention to some comics that deserve a little more spotlight. Maybe a Quail's Roulette-- pick a random comic from the site, and all give your impression on it. (not make fun of it of course, just first impressions, what works for it and what could improve it) I just think some community centered stuff would help a lot. Making people feel like they're a part of this community and not just dropping pages and leaving could go a long way.

*cite dammit. Why is autocorrect doing me dirty?

usedbooks at 4:47AM, Oct. 15, 2022

Not that you guys aren't fun on your own. But current Quackcast seem like newsposts with less structure. So I'd rather read newsposts and have discussions in the comments (there's more interaction that way).

usedbooks at 4:43AM, Oct. 15, 2022

*cute, not site

Ironscarf at 4:43AM, Oct. 15, 2022

I also think the Quackcast is a great thing to have for the site. As such, more discussion about what's happening in the wider world of online comics would be great, as well as what's happening here. An hour seems a good length to me, but I'm happy if it gets shorter or longer as and when the discussion call for that. Sound quality can be an issue, but that's probably hard to address without spending cash, I don't know. Maybe ask Hippie Van - her One Great History podcast is crystal clear. I'd rather have variable sound than no podcast at all though.

I only listen to podcasts with more community involvement. Examples: episodes generated from community discussions, episodes that have little mini-projects (like the time DDers submitted soundbites of characters giving synopses, or submitted scenes the quackcasters preformed), ones with topics that site DD comics, or the rare mass gathering Quackcast events where other DDers joined for a meeting. (Although for the last thing, I think if tried in the future, more structure with select topics announced before the "meeting" would be a lot more fun.) Even a guest speaker or two would be fun and/or interviews.

PaulEberhardt at 4:11AM, Oct. 15, 2022

What I like: that you go through the effort of doing Quackcasts. It's awesome to have that as a site feature. That there is a large variety in the topics is cool too. You can't please everyone but this is as close as you can ever get. The length is an issue for me, but that's the way with just about every podcast everywhere so the problem probably lies with me. Listening to someone talking tends to distract me from whatever else I'm doing, so I often simply haven't got the time and must stop after the first third of it or so, no matter how much fun or how interesting it is. That's why I'm glad that Gunwallace's cool music and the features etc. are somewhere at the beginning. Also, at the end of some long days of literally nothing else, I just feel I need some silence with nobody talking to me for a change. I steer clear of audiobooks and radio plays for the same reasons. So it's not really my kind of medium and I probably shouldn't count.

Tantz_Aerine at 12:50AM, Oct. 15, 2022

Oh no, I can't do funny. Banes can tho.

bravo1102 at 12:33AM, Oct. 15, 2022

Shorter and more organized and on point so less rambling and me going. "what the hell are they talking about?" And that's from me a member of obscure reference royalty. 🤣 Rotating hosts so it's not the same four every time? Sometimes four voices comes off unwieldy and it loses focus.

Ozoneocean at 9:03PM, Oct. 14, 2022

Yes, tellll ussssss! Hahaha We're screaming into the void. I was thinking maybe something about the comics on the site and make it only half an hour or something but I have no idea what people would really want from a podcast feature on the front page.
