Xade, creator of Growlution and Insanity of Xade, has an announcement:
“Monday is here*, and I’m thrilled to say we finally have the rent money. It’s now in the apartment manager’s hands, and I can’t help but reflect on the incredible support we received. From old friends who helped get the fundraiser off the ground to new friends who opened their hearts and wallets, each of you played a crucial role in helping us keep our home. Thank you to all nine of you—it’s been a wild journey, and I want to take a moment to look back.
Our Journey:
1. Fundraiser Launch (Day 1):
At the start, we were at rock bottom. After a year of hardships—my mom’s stroke, my SSI payments stopping, and Mike’s job loss—we feared losing our home. We needed $760 for rent and $160 for truck repairs and gas. Thanks to the initial support from friends, we found hope.
2. Day 2 - Thank You Ducks!
Waking up to $173 in my PayPal was a blessing. With enough for gas and part of the rent, I was overwhelmed with gratitude, especially for the wonderful folks at The Duck Webcomics.
3. Day 3 - A Whopping Donation and a New Challenge
We received a $420 donation from The Duck Webcomics, which got the truck fixed and us ready to door-dash. But then, a delay in Mike’s background check for DoorDash added new anxiety as the rent deadline approached.
4. Day 4 Morning - Staying Determined Amid Rejections
Saturday was tense as I searched for more ways to promote the fundraiser. Despite rejections, I stayed determined. By the end of the day, we were 47% funded, thanks to a $50 donation from Comic Fury.
5. Day 4 Afternoon - 80 to Go!
Later that day, we received a $450 donation, bringing us to within $80 of our goal. The donor’s message filled me with hope and strength. We were so close, and I knew we’d reach the finish line with everyone’s continued support.
Final Push (Day 4 Evening):
After hitting 92%, Mom and I scrounged together our remaining change, leaving us $16 short. Desperate, I remembered some old cell phones I could recycle. After a quick trip to Walmart, I walked away $15 richer. We had it—$760 for rent, plus a couple of dollars for the money order. We did it, and we couldn’t have done it without your help. Thank you, everyone—you are truly amazing. If I could, I’d hug each of you. You have my eternal gratitude. May the Lord bless each of you, even if you don’t believe in him.
With extreme gratitude,
Xade
P. S.
I wrote the main post after midnight, capturing the moment while it was fresh. Little did I know, I’d wake up to a fully funded fundraiser! Someone donated the final $80, bringing us to 100%. Thank you, donor number 9—you’re the icing on the cake, allowing us to get a few extra things we’d put off. Thank you so much!
