Hello everyone, I recently found a blast from the past in the early days of the Duck and wanted to reach out to the oldheads, while also laying out something fun for newer members who may be interested. First of all, take a look at the bear icon above. Do you recognize it?

If so, then the first part of this post will pertain to you specifically.

As early as 2006, I introduced a little bit of a meme to The Duck involving this cartoon bear named Shmoofy. The bear was an in-joke of mine, drawn into comics, sometimes as a toy, a character, or as an icon. I still do that to this day. For a while, there was a bit of a trend on The Duck where folks would throw a Shmoofy into their comics, and after a while, I began recording all the appearances and putting them on a page that linked to all those comics. It was called The Shmoofy Experiment.

Here he was circa 2006 or 2007 or so. This might be a more familiar look:



Fast-forward over 15(!) years. During that time, servers vanish or crash, as do comics, and some people just straight-up disappear. I lost my own index of Shmoofy appearances that numbered a few dozen. I thought the record was lost until I found a partially completed page that had several entries. Unfortunately, a lot of those links, especially to pre-crash Duck, just do not exist anymore.

So that is where those of you who remember Shmoofy come in; if you remember in your archives where you included the bear, please get in touch with me and provide a link so I can add it to the new index page. About half of the original list is available on the site, but the links were broken.

I am going to be going through archives where I can, but if you recall the comics in question, I'd love the help. I'm currently working on Pinky TA right now.

With that said, if you are unfamiliar with Shmoofy, I would love to start logging new travels. Here is the latest version of the character for your reference, and anything you need to know about him can be found on The Shmoofy Experiment homepage.



I am adding new links to comics and websites that include this teddy bear. I'd love to see where the bear might appear on The Duck, so I ask that if you need to throw something on a shelf or in a toybox in a comic, or you need some kind of item for a logo or shirt in your work, that you consider throwing in a Shmoofy and letting me know. I'll happily include a link in the new index. With today's content management systems, it is a lot easier to update these things; the original page was hardcoded HTML, for example.
