Our village thrives on the coming of age ceremonies. That's when we get our companion from the underworld. It keeps them from devouring our souls every time we step outside. They're actually a pretty nice group of spirits, though I happened to get the one with a mean streak and a thirst for adventure. They can't go far without their host, however, and the comfortable life I had imagined was pitched out the window as a result. So off we went, my spirit and I, off on a journey toward no particular goal. At least, that's what I thought.
