This page was written as I took the pictures. El Cid suggested that the nipples could be dials for something, so they have to have proper torque applied with a wrench to adjust the beam strength.
The red outline in the second panel is the conduit showing up from beneath the skin because B-B is over adjusting it.

I suggested that? Wow, I totally forgot. It is exactly where I'd put the beam strength adjustment knobs though!
