I was too optimistic, promising a page for last Monday… since the week before, I was away at a conference. Plus, I guess I had a little too much respect for drawing this page and procrastinated. But I eventually mustered up the courage and here it is!
Legend Comics: Thanks for taking the time (or procrastinating :P) to share your thoughts. This is a pretty messy subject, and killing innocents for one's beliefs is part of it. I have the greatest respect for people who can honestly claim that they would never kill, come what may. I believe anybody could easily imagine a situation in which something dear to us would be at stake, and where we'd be driven to a point where we'd commit the kind of moral atrocity we'd usually condemn (in everyday life).
Yes, definitely both, but I judge people based on my own moral code. If I were to ask a monster for an opinion he may respond differently. It's a moot point maybe but at least he has something he believes in strongly enough to die for. I'm not sure what I'm willing to die for, other than my son. Don't get me wrong, I don't respect them in any way. I assume you're talking about someone who is also willing to kill innocents for their beliefs, too, but could you imagine dying for a belief? Now I'm wondering if faith is a good or bad trait in humans. Ugh, thanks a lot. I'm supposed to be working right now!
Ah. That's interesting. More interesting still is that you say you've personally met people who thought of themselves as monsters. My writing is all hypothetical.
I guess i'm thinking of people who do terrible things but don't believe that they are doing anything wrong. I guess that behaviour borders on sociopathic. I've met people who have thought of themselves as monsters, not literally, of course. They justify their actions by rationalising that they are acting in their nature, almost embracing it.
Dan: Do you mean soldiers or terrorists...? I'm guessing the latter, since it wouldn't make too much sense for a soldier to think of himself as a monster, would it?
It's an interesting question. I'd have to say both. I imagine people carrying out these acts may not think that they are being monstrous, which is more of a concern in my opinion.

I love it when you get into these monologues. They can really get you thinking at times
