Character Concept - Seth
reconjsh on March 15, 2007
This is a concept sketch of “SETH”, 3rd of 4 protagonists for our up coming title.
EDIT: Name changed to Seth.
This wasn't one of the original characters we created. In fact, it was several planning sessions into creation that this character was born. But after writing his story, this is BY FAR my favorite character; his story is the most tragic of all.
Anyways…
Comments are very much appreciated. These “SNEAK PEEKS” update every Friday. Next week we release the 4th and final character… which happens to be Adam's favorite. And he's the coolest looking of the bunch.
Pencils: Adam Davis
Inks: Jerome Hill (me)

What are you talking about 'Heart Artists'? What do I mean? lol.
I heart artists at 9:01PM, March 20, 2007
Now I know what you mean! Gorgeous work!

Thanks again guys. It's an awesome feeling seeing your work come to life and being received positively by a community of artists you respect. JuhFreak - I'm certain the name will change. Some of our favorite names look good in print but were too difficult to actually pronounce. We're still working on it and open to suggestions. ;)

And YOU think our comic is good? Dang, yo! Thanks! Hmm... I'm all for getting the name changed. DC Comics has a muscle-bound assassin named Cain. But then, it is so hard to find good not-taken names... probably shouldn't stress about it TOO much. I'd love to see this colored!

Very hardcore inking man. =]
timlight at 2:40AM, March 20, 2007
can't wait to see him in action; nice job!

Normalman - Thanks! In hindsight, it was a mistake not to post these concepts under the comic's real title. Oh well, I guess I can just PQ anyone who made a comment and give them the link to it when it starts. Every page Adam and I develop makes us more and more happy about this comic in general. We really think you guys are going to enjoy this comic. At least, we hope so... :)

Glass_Ink - Thanks for being a fan. I promise not to disappoint, or I'll refund you double the price of admission. hehe :)

Very nice artwork... Gotta say I love the style...

GaryB - Yeah, I do tend to way over-ink. It's one of my weaknesses. And I'm sure Adam would want me to point out that these "character concepts" are really just concept sketches and weren't really intended for inking and/or public viewing. Now I'm in really deep doo-doo... lol. Thanks to everyone again for commenting. Comments and critique is VERY welcome!

Sweet drawings O.O can't wait until to see more

Can't wait to see more, and for this to start up in full. My advice is to watch the direction of your cloth folds, they should follow a) gravity and b) generally flow in a direction. Cloth likes to be loose and easy like, kinda like a hooker without having to pay. Also watch your hip angle and width. You're going way too thin in the middle, even for stylistic art. And listly, try practicing those heads in different angles and make them pop out a little more. On this particular picture you could just try adding a slight shadow under the chin. Your lines are clean and smooth. As I said, cannot wait to see more!

mcman - Thanks a ton! The comic is actually already started, we're just getting ahead on pages to be sure not to miss an update. I like to believe the story is even better than the art... but maybe I'm a bit bias, hehe.
ZoeStead at 4:24PM, March 18, 2007
Your inkwork is very very cool!
mcman at 3:39PM, March 18, 2007
This is amazing US style line art. I really hope you get started on a comic with this. These characters are very well designed and portrayed, I hope that your writing is even half of this! Fantastic.

Phantom Penguin - a Wacom Cintiq Display Tablet and Photoshop CS2. If you get a tablet, the world of digital inking opens up like you wouldn't believe. Beyond that, it's just the pen tool and maximized use of the PS Brush engine. Thanks again everyone!!

Thanks all you guys! I really love comments. Conned - All the "manly men" are rockin' the chins. Bruce Cambell anyone? hehe. Talking Ketchup - You're right, maybe I am going a bit ink crazy. When I color these, there will be significantly less ink. I'm just using these for inking practice - I haven't been an inker for but a few months ;) Kristen Gudsnuk - Spock! Ya know, it never dawned on me until you mentioned that, though there's always been something familiar about the look of this character that I couldn't put my finger on.
Phantom Penguin at 10:00AM, March 18, 2007
cool! you gotta tell me how you ink this stuff
Conned at 5:45AM, March 18, 2007
Now thats what I call a manly chin! But I disagree, wrinkly clothes are all the rage, a man needs to look fashionable yes yes..
Talking Ketchup at 4:16AM, March 18, 2007
haha this is very cool, I think you're overdoing the folds tho but that may just be my opinion :P but very cool
Kristen Gudsnuk at 12:06AM, March 18, 2007
sweet awesomeness!! he looks very Dr. Spock ^_^ (hehe because of his eyebrows!!) I love the way you vary the thickness of the lines, it makes for a very dynamic piece~ I'm super-excited for the comic itself! :D!

thomasnewman - We update every Friday... and I promise a very GRAND beginning for all the fans that have waited so far ;)

ar_vuki - Thank you. If they don't exist, then what's been tickling my feet from under my bed when I sleep at night? Allan - Thanks. We really made an effort not to have a crew of 18 year looking superheroes. These guys have all seen some battles in their lifetimes, so they're scared and have age wrinkles. ZeeZee - There's a whole list of awesome things yet to come. Brogan - A compliment like that from a cheeky polar bear is always nice. Thank you.
Brogan at 9:29AM, March 17, 2007
Nice line work!
