Changelings have a basis in fairy lore actually, the name less implies a shape-shift and more of an exchange, a human infant swapped out for a fairy imposter. Though we also have the Teen Titans character "Changeling" who shapeshifts and indeed the canon Zam Wessel from the Star Wars prequels rather changing the idea of what that name implies! Actually, there's another alien in mind for how a changeling demon operates...:)
