well there are gouls now instead of humans, and super mutants. the reason there are so few roaches are that they are now much bigger. too bad the government didn't make a bunch of vaults.

Actually, while the cockroaches did not survive as well as the other insects in the test, they survive far better than any mammal would have in that situation. Admittedly, it did not do the roaches any good, but they did much better than we would have. Where were the mayflies? I thought the other insects where flour beetles and fruit flies.

Indeed. Mythbusters proved that Roaches have no better radiation resistance than any of us. Compared to roaches that were not exposed (control group) exposed roaches died early. Mayflies, however, were unaffected.
