First off, much thanks to Kaja and Phil Foglio, and their “minion”, Alice Bentley, for permission to mention the engaging, gorgeously drawn gaslamp fantasy/reality in which GIRL GENIUS takes place, as shown by the mention of Mechanicsburg and the Heterodynes—of course the most famous Heterodyne is Agatha Heterodyne, the aforementioned Girl Genius.
Secondly—it seems like our characters spend a lot of time eating. For which Dasien can only be grateful. *Grin"
Just a FYI. For some reason, Comicgenesis is having troubles updating this morning, but those interested in reading the next page of Mindmistress' solo adventures can go to her livejournal, at http://mmsophia.livejournal.com/.
I thought 'necessary' was okay -- Das is just throwing Dewey's word back at him. 'Famished' struck me as un-Dasien-like, but Neil *wrote* that. I'm just glad I retained some of the original script. :)
I thought the backgrounds looked better before I put the colors in, honestly. It's not that I'm good at backgrounds -- I'm just good at drawing things once, and then never having to draw them again. I doubt I could replicate panel two here if I tried. :)
I too love the vibrant colors, which is all the more impressive because Remus is color-blind.(!)
We're getting some sense where each of us is strongest, artistically. Remus for instance, does the best backgrounds of ANY of us.
Maybe colloquial is the wrong word. It's just not the most natural phrase that I would have gone with. It's fine, though. I'm just an analytical pest. Maybe I'll post about it on the message board.
Besides, there are some cool plot points going on here. The explanation behind the warp shield has some importance later on.
"This is necessary!"
Oops. How did I not catch that one? I'm usually pretty anal about the way Dasien talks, since she's usually much more colloquial than that. I think I would have replaced that line with something like, "Oh boy!". Oh well. My fault for not proofreading.
I believe the "boomstick" is a reference to the Evil Dead series.
Need I even bother explaining what the BFG is? I don't think so.

Heh, there are actually two places named Mechanicsburg: in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

By the way, ignore my commentary below. Remus explained the line to me, and he'll be on later to comment himself.

Necessary can be colloquial. When food is at stake, anything can be colloquial!
