Third and last page this week, boys and girls. With things heating up between Mindmistress and Lightbringer, it's time to cool things off with Dasien. …for the most part. I mean, you don't really think that these two goofballs are going to stop making fun of each other, do you?
Notice that Mindmistress is doing Lorelei's hair sweep from the Armory chapter. Do you suppose Mindmistress knows that she's getting sympathy points from Das by doing that? I suspect she does.
We had this idea of doing torture sequences for all of the heroes, but we each, one-by-one, backed out of that, leaving Mindmistress the only character to endure it at length. I think it just became difficult to do the same sort of scenes for the other characters. In particular, we had issues with Debbie, since she's always happy. How do you torture the happy zombie? So, individual torture scenes were out.
One such scene involving Dasien, which I had mentioned in my commentary for page 5, was to factor into her emotional state in this scene. It works perfectly fine without it, but there is a vestigial influence here, which you may be able to detect now that I've pointed it out.
By the way, I don't know what kind of success rate I hit here, but this page, more than any other, I was really trying to emulate Al's writing style for Mindmistress. He didn't tell me to change anything, so I think I did it right.
It's the mood of the scene that's more important than the coloring. (Although, I guess you could say that the mood [u]necessitated[/u] the coloring.)
I doubt I'll do many more pages that are colored like this. Especially when you have like six characters in a scene, it can be a little hectic to get the thing done. But with just two characters for the majority of the page, doing this sort of coloring was a lot easier.

I can imagine that MM's costume has to be somewhat flexible/bending so that its not uncomfortable to the wearer

This scene was entirely his own idea, and I loved it from the moment he storyboarded it. The "puppy dog eyes" remark keeps it from being maudlin, but still allows every emotional drop to be squeezed out of this scene.
Like it's been said, strong work here Neil. We should trade secrets on how we color our pages.
I think it would have been neat if you guys did a "Han Solo in Empire Strikes Back" torture homage/parody. But then again, this part of the story isn't really supposed to be funny.
And the prison looks like the Death Star anyway, Natch!
This isn't the craziest page I've ever done, but I do like the coloring and the emotion of the scene.
I had a chance to do some mood lighting. The extra coloring time also afforded me the ability to make Mindmistress' costume appear more metallic, even though I keep drawing it with cloth-like properties. (note the wrinkles)

Awesome page per usual, but maybe a new coloring style? I think I'm seeing more heavy shadows. Regardless, it's looking very cool.
