I love the "POIT!" when ANT pushed Red over. Nuff said!
MM's expression on the frame after the drip kick is classic.
And secretly, deep-down, who doesn't love Goofy? I remember that stupid "Hoo-hoo-hoo-Hooey!" quote... /facepalm
Y'know, the last person to have a catwalk-related accident ended up becoming Horror, the "Medusa" of the Twilight Sisters. Hopefully Red's accident just throws him into some random dimension.
This page proves that good things are worth waiting for... that Ant is not so crazy after all and that MM learns there are easier solutions after all.. :)
... and basically, doesn't the Wilhelm screen go "Aiiiiiiiiiiiiii!"?
Oh yeah! It's is a Chekov's gun. Once again, this adds to my theory that tropes are unavoidable, and it's a lot of fun seeing which ones we can snag along the way.
Well, actually---where Uber-Red ends up---ahhh, you'll see.
Actually, MM's been calling Bloodlust (her oldest "name" villain) variations on her name like "Blood Loser" almost since he was introduced.
The Crossoverlord story is in the past of the current MM. It happened AFTER "Visionary Concepts" (where the Visionary saw the grouping, and MM didn't know what it was referring to) and after the Crossover Wars stories, like "Puzzling the Problem of Evil" and "Personal Crisis, Uncivil War" (Ringo makes his first appearance in the end of that one, and we see Smiley...it probably happened not too long after that.) The Crossoverlord saga is referred to in "Magical Musings" as being in the past, as you can see on this page where the Editor asks what happened to the Smiling Man, and Vicki, MM's AI, says that's a "loooong story". That's when the Editor is temporarily imprisoned by MM, and the Editor ESCAPES his confinement in "Gifted", so that would be further in the future from this story.
So far, the entire CROSSOVERLORD story has only occupied a few days for the group, and, Narnia-like, when they return to their home realities, they may find only a few seconds or minutes have passed. Which is handy for people with secret identities.
I definitely agree that a Wilhelm would have been even better, if there was some way to indicate it in text form.
I'm surprised that MM isn't concerned, though. She lectures that falling off the catwalk could take you anywhere and anywhen... which means that a nigh-unstoppable rampaging killing machine has been dropped anywhere/anywhen. It's kind of irresponsible to unleash that upon some unsuspecting dimension.
The fist bump is kinda cool. Seems that MindMistress is definitely becoming less uptight. I was wondering after reading this past wednesday's MindMistress if her calling BloodLust 'Blood Loss' was an influence of Dasien.
Which made me wonder where Crossoverlord occurs in the continuity of MindMistress. Is it a story yet to happen, or did it happen already? Is it currently happening between the ticks of the clock in current continuity?
I've yammered enough. Good comic.
By the way, did you notice that this is a call-back to Mindmistress lecturing ANT about the dangers of falling off the Catwalk? Funny how things come full-circle like that.
Love this page, I gotta say.
A.N.T. totally called her attack on that one. I didn't realize she subscribed to that trope. Still, way to go on the nick of time save A.N.T.!
I don't really think it's possible to do a Wilhelm scream in print except by going *Wilhelm Scream* , and that would just be tacky. Besides, it's an audio joke, and onomatopoeia should display, not reference.
Cont.
Actually, if there was any way to convincingly do the Welhelm scream in text, i would have used that. The Goofy holler was my second choice.
I don't know that Uber-Red is mindless. He's mute, but he certainly understands what people are saying to him. (And he's obviously potty trained.)
And yes, we all love the Goofy howl.
Couple of comments:
MM can't hypnotize Red because he's near-mindless.
I love the Goofy "Hoo-Hoo-Hoo-Hooey".
I love the fistbumps between ANT and MM.
Aaaaaaaaannnnd...
Neil, you would be late for your own funeral.

Wow, you used a Goofy quote for him? Great page though.

Damn it! I was hoping nobody would catch that.

One last note... Shouldn't the fist bump between MM and A.N.T. go -tink- instead of -smack-? :) Metal on metal, ya know.

THAT's the name for our group! It's the Trope Troop! (Crickets chirping). Okay. As you were.

You realize I had to add that page to the Jumped At The Call TVTropes page, right Neil? Also, Chekhov would be proud. Nice foreshadow.

Variations on HIS (Bloodlust's) name, I meant to say.

Goofy Holler. Yep, now that was classy. ;) Yet another excellent page, as always. ;)
