@KimLuster: Yup, the people here definitely have a laid back attitude about things concerning mortality and order. Considering their ancient ancestors may have had to live in complete darkness in earlier times (hence, evolving to have the ability to see in the dark!), it's no surprise that this sort of thing is pretty common place around here!
