For those who haven't seen the behind the scenes look at Desolation of Smaug, Cumberbatch did the motion capture for Smaug.Let that sink in for a moment. Cumberbatch was on the ground, acting like a dragon while delivering his lines.But being an indie film, they can't afford that.

That's a possibility, but I think they're hoping to find a quadruped that they don't have to do that with.

Couldn't someone read and teach on of them the lines? It might take longer but they could do it.
