CRITICS ACCLAIM
The letters are placed very nicely and look balanced within the bubbles
This is pretty much Lettering 101. Simple and consistent. And I even witnessed an occasional clipping mask. Clipping masks are pains in the ass.
I feel that the font size is the perfect size, not too big or small, which makes the pages easy to read

@Everyone: Thanks once again, everybody! @flipsidered: *hearrt* back atcha! @Paul: It took me a couple of minutes but I managed to work out "Strg" must be the German "Ctrl". So ... what would webcomic extraordinaire "Ctrl+Alt+Del" be called in German? @ElCid: You're right, of course. But I have learned my lesson. From now on, Comic Sans is the only font for me! Bocaj: Hey, give me back those congrates! I was looking forward to those!

@Azujod, DAJB, MeHighLows, Nicotine and Houseofmuses: Thanks so much, guys! ;; this was a little rushed tbh so I'm glad people liked! And DAJB, congrats on ANOTHER win! :D You deserve it all, buddy! *heaaart*

Grats Shades!
PaulEberhardt at 1:47PM, Sept. 9, 2010
(Whoops! Just realised that "Strg" is "Ctrl" on English keyboards! Had my head in the clouds, obviously.)
patrickdevine at 12:14PM, Sept. 9, 2010
Bwahaha! Lettering gag, I love it! Shades is really raking in the acclaim this year, well deserved of course.
Nicotine at 11:19AM, Sept. 9, 2010
I love this presentation and how poor Chainey's speech changes at the end. :D Judging this wasn't cut-and-dry as you may think but I'm glad we choose Shades in the end. Good job winning about 1/4 of the awards so far! xD

*presses Strg+V* Congrats to DAJB! Seriously now, I'm actually not that much surprised about this win, considering how professional the lettering in Shades looks. Still, the other nominees are excellent too, mind you.
darrell at 6:09AM, Sept. 9, 2010
Congrats Shades, great job!
El Cid at 5:41AM, Sept. 9, 2010
Shades won?! But I looked at that comic, and they didn't use Comic Sans or Times New Roman, not once!
Bocaj at 4:37AM, Sept. 9, 2010
(I meant congrats. Whoops.)
Bocaj at 4:37AM, Sept. 9, 2010
Congrates Shades!
MeHighLow at 4:18AM, Sept. 9, 2010
A superbly drawn, laid out - and lettered - presentation, flipsidered! Wow! And congrats to Shades, dammit!
Abt_Nihil at 4:11AM, Sept. 9, 2010
Congrats # ...I stopped counting.
MrHades at 1:24AM, Sept. 9, 2010
Wow! Well done Shades!
DAJB at 12:38AM, Sept. 9, 2010
Okay, now I'm getting embarrassed! Thanks again to everyone involved in these awards - the readers who voted, the judges who judged and flipsidered who did this wonderful (and wonderfully lettered!) presentation! @Genejoke: There's never only one right or wrong way to do this kind of stuff, but you can find some of my thoughts on lettering here.
AzuJOD at 12:27AM, Sept. 9, 2010
I'm seeing a lot of nice artwork in these presentations. Congrats to Shades, again!
Kroatz at 11:50PM, Sept. 8, 2010
Gotta go and rip those letters...
Genejoke at 11:18PM, Sept. 8, 2010
really need to hit DAJB for some tips.
houseofmuses at 11:05PM, Sept. 8, 2010
I sure love flipsidered's illustrating style. It's very 101 Dalmatians. In the next post-apocalyptic generation, when they've relaxed their standards a bit, I can see it all now: NOW PLAYING: DISNEY'S MAGGOT BOY!

Congrats! I wish there were more hand-lettered comics on DD. It seems to be a dying art. Oh well. Even with computer fonts, balloon placements and style/size choices are important. (This was "first time" for this category, btw. Suggested as an addition this year.)
fukujinzuke at 10:22PM, Sept. 8, 2010
Congratulations, DAJB!
