Surprised? This was the proverbial last straw for Carolyn. All this time, she's been trying to get over her mother's death and make something positive of her life. Carolyn was used to and could handle the racist comments. But in making it personal, with one sentence, Gina has unwittingly made herself a target for all of the rage and grief that Carolyn has been burying. Also, please note that Carolyn does not have any spiritual beliefs at this time in the flashback story.

And now, replies to previous comments:

usedbooks: I hear ya on that one, and I agree. :)

Tantz Aerine: Yeah, it's one of those things that would be great if it didn't exist, right?

trevoramueller: Truer words were never spoken, my friend.

DAJB and TitanOne: I think it's important to point it out. Some people think racism is only from White people, and I know from firsthand experience, it ain't so. (and I'm glad to still be breathing!)

albone: Well, that didn't quite happen… ;)

Molly Loves The KLF: I don't think Gina's gonna be on the tennis team again for a long while, if ever again. Problem solved..?

smkinoshita: Thanks. And, um, about that violence part-? >_
