The Little Details, part 1

My wife tells me that, left to my own devices, I explain way too much. Consequently, whenever I have to give any kind of back story, I limit myself (or at least try to limit myself) to one page of back story. Typically, I have somebody talking, while the entire back story plays out in tiny panels or in a collage around their dialog bubble. Often that means that a panel I spent a long time thinking about, laying out, and rendering, is reduced to something you only notice intuitively, rather than actually see. When I saw how much of this image was lost when merged with the other images from the exposition, I nearly made it the cover. Like, you completely lose the virgins worshipping at the feet of the queen in the original page (which, by the way, can be seen HERE). But making it the cover would have given this image too much weight in the story for this time. Here's the original render, unretouched, for your amusement.
